Re: Airconditioning
Yup - it is more time consuming than hard. A system designed for an application is for the most part a "bolt in" kit with very little fabrication needed. A custom system like OK is doing takes a little more planing out and think how you want the finished product to look - ie, smooth firewall, hidden lines, SS Braided lines, etc.
Hey OK - looking good!! If you think about it, call me next week - I have a question about your drier - (we are closed Friday the 23)........Mark |

Re: Airconditioning
Like Coolair said, it is pretty easy, just need to plan it out and not get in any hurry, its been almost 2 week since I started it, and I didn’t want to rush anything and make any mistakes.

Re: Airconditioning
Well its Sunday afternood and I have all of my AC installed and hooked up, with the exception of the AC lines, they go in tomarrow and have crimped, and at 5 bucks a pop it wont be cheap.

Re: Airconditioning
Can you not borrow a cimp tool from your local parts store? Usually napa has makes a/c hoses and they could loan the tool or crimp them to your cut hoses, Im sure for much less than $5 ea!! that sounds like a rip off!!

Re: Airconditioning
I have checked and no one has a tool that I can use. But the place I bought the system said that I could send the hoses back to them and they would cromp them for me, but after shipping and the wait I figured I might as well just have them do it.

Re: Airconditioning
Boy this AC blows, I don’t mean in a bad way, the blower puts out way more air out than I expected, on low it blow's more air than the old stock unit did on high. Actually I wish that on low it would blow less. The heater about ran me out of the truck on the way to work this morning.

Re: Airconditioning
hey guys- i noticed a couple of yall are still installing fittings the old way of indexing & taking them to get crimped. this is what i use. air-o-crimp. check out the web on them. they work! also you can remove them & use them over. only need the plier tool to install. the ones i use have an o-ring on the barb that fits right under the clamp. they never leak!

Re: Airconditioning
Oklahoma, what pulley system is on your truck? I'm starting the process of doing the same to my truck and like your setup. Did you have to do anything special to mount the VA compressor to the system? I have a short water pump, is yours short or long?
Thank you! Tony |

Re: Airconditioning
I'm not sure if it is shor or long, but it does have to be a reverse style pump, I just got the one off the truck that I got the brackets off of. I'm not sure what a VA is, but if its the AC a stock GM will work fine, but the new pump comes with adapter brackets. Any other question's fee free to ask.

Re: Airconditioning
As far as I know all reverse rotation water pumps used with the serpentine accessory drives are long water pumps. Except for the '84-'91 Vette's.....

Hey Oklahoma, do you have any more pics of your install? I just got my Vintage Air kit in today and I'm just looking for some guidance on the dash, under-dash and firewall work.
Thanks man! Tony |
