Ever buy parts you don't need?

How many here do this? It seems that every time I go out hunting for parts I ALWAYS end up bringing '64-66 parts back home, even when they're things that I have no use for. My back yard is starting to look like a scrap yard

I went out yesterday to look at a parts truck that turned out to be a dud, but sure enough on the way home I spotted a 456 cab behind an old house. I stopped and talked to the owner and although most of the cab was shot, I ended up taking the front clip home with me...
I have absolutely no use for that, its actually still in the back of the truck because I don't know where to put it.... but I couldn't leave it there now could I

What car guy hasn't done this! A person just can't have too many doodads or spare parts.

Oh yeah, it's part of the addiction. I started out with one storage unit that had more than enough space for my parts...... now I have 2 storage units completely full of parts. It's a sickness.

Re: Ever buy parts you don't need?

Happens to me all the time. If I can get it at a good price, why not. I look at it as my own form of collision insurance. Then again I bought a 63 grill just because it was in good shape and price. My truck's a 64 and already have an extra paintable and chrome grill. What can I say. I do have the same problem with where to put it all. But I think it looks nice piled up outside the bathroom window, the wife, not so much.

Hey I'd help you "store" that spare chrome grill.

ha ha I am so guilty of this. I buy "just in case" or as Winola said I '' might'' need.
I sometimes come across parts I forgot I had.

I've been doing this for as long as I can remember. The worst part is whenever I do sell something I wish that I had kept it....I might need that someday....eventhough I've had it how many years and haven't used it yet

Re: Ever buy parts you don't need?

I have parts stored at my parents, I have parts stored at a coworkers garage. I have parts stored at our cottage. I have parts on a piece of property 6 hours from where I live now. I have parts stored in the autoparts store where I work. I have parts stored outside of the cargo trailer, which I live in cause I can't bring myself to waste money on rent, and living this way allows me to buy more parts. I have parts in the cargo trailer in the rear section and parts in the 4'x8'x7' front insulated section where I sleep and dream of these trucks and parts. I've been looking for bed linen with 63 Chevrolet trucks printed on it with pyjamas to match. Thought of making slippers in the shape of my pickup I'm OK it's the rest of the world.

Re: Ever buy parts you don't need?

I too grab up something fo rmine too. Eaxmple I grabbed an extra water inlet neck for my V-6 Mine is cast iron and it would take a lot to break it but you NEVER KNOW. I have severral sets of the V-6 emblem.U

UNTIL I MET AEROTRUCK63, I was not that interested in "all" the options, but oh not he could not leave well enough along, he starts sending me emails on all sorts of goodies.

BUT unless I find something I NEW, I have IT ALL, EVERY LAST ITEM I SAY HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA...........

Re: Ever buy parts you don't need?

YUP I'm just as guilty... I have a pretty clean stock 66 swb, thats my DD, and I also have a 66 that I'm building just cause I don't want to down my daily driver... is that sick..? So far the builder I got for free it's also a short bed bbw, and I got a 66 long bed custom cab (donor truck) for free, and I also got a 402 bbc from a motor home (with turbo 400) for free just for taking it out, so I guess I'm guilty of being a pack rat... but hey what the hell... At least I'm not out chasing women is what I tell her...LOL Now I just need a a couple more, cuz.... we'll I'm not really sure...? they always say a true redneck's wealth is measured by how mush sh*t he has...!!!
