Thinking about a 4 speed manual
im thinking of replacing my th350 with a 4 speed . i know i will need the clutch pedal assembly & fly wheel . what else should i know before attempting this swap.

I'm planning on doing the same swap on my 67, so I'm interested in this also. I'm guessing the crossmember and drive shaft from a 4 speed truck as well?

I'm in the process of doing this myself, (my 69 was an auto,but I found a 3 speed saginaw floor shift for it) You'll need the z-bar and brackets,clutch rods and springs and clutch pedal, and one of the brackets need to bolt to the engine block on the drivers side, so the block has to have the threaded holes in it, and the frame needs to have the bracket that the other end of the z-bar ball stud fits into. i changed my 71 from a 3 on a tree to a four on the floor and i really enjoy it! i installed a hurst competion plus with a saginaw 4 speed transmission. definetly go with the change.

You can use the auto cross member with a car 4spd.I`m installing a Muncie M22 and it has the rear mount that sits right where the TH350/400s mount.You will need all the clutch linkage from a V8 truck.I am using an aluminum car bellhousing since no intermediate mount is needed.

i had a 72 with a 4 on the floor and loved it!
now i'm just looking forward to an overdrive 700r in my 71 longhorn (putting a manual 4 speed is always in the back of my mind, ha ha) |

If getting the whole Z-bar works seems expensive or daunting to you, there are aftermarket hydraulic throwout bearings that just involve a line running into the bellhousing opening for the unused linkage, and a racing style clutch pedal and clutch cylinder added to the firewall. Speedway Motors has the parts.
This is just an option, some people like it some don't and some want a specific look or theme for the vehicle.

Everthing should fall into place except that bell crank (Z bar). Was yours ever a 4 speed? The Z bar might be left behind. What was most tough for me was the relocation of it. My truck had a 6 cyl and I had to take a torch and very carefully cut the rivots out since they were in fact rivots. Had to relocte it farther back but she's like butter now. Like Special K....I went with that Muncie M-22.

The most fun I ever had was in a 69 El Camino with a 327 and a four speed. Well, maybe not the most fun, but I remember it well.
