Orig bumper question

I have tried to search using a couple different searches but can not come up with much. The attached pic is of the rear bumper on my 67 K10, I have seen similar types before, is this a stock setup? Seems a little bulky to me. What are the other options for stock rear bumpers. If I can ever figure out how to get the plow off the front (PO welded it in some spots) I want to go back to factory front and rear. Thanks in advance guys!

rear bumper was an option on these trucks. that bumper could b the original dealer installed option
they'd get local vendor. i've seen quite a few different ones that were installed on the trucks when they were news to build bumpers to thier specs for the dealer install option

the rear bumper doesnt look stock, i have a org. stock bumper on mine and its bulky like that but it doesnt come around the rear panels like that one does. I just ordered a new rear bumper from LMC truck brackets and all cost about 290 including shipping. hopefully you can get that plow off!

So if this is not factory I am thinking of just cutting those side pieces off for now. I have a reese hitch to go under there and I would like to incorporate a bumper using the receiver hole to be hidden into it or at least flush with the bumper some how, we shall see

That bumper could easily be the original rear. Like cdowns said, they had dealer installed options for rear bumpers when these trucks were new. Every old truck I have ever had has had a custom rear bumper and my '63 C20 has one that wraps around like that. It's also original to the truck. What kinds of bumpers were available depended completely on the what was available from the local vendors in the area where the truck was sold.

Gotcha, thanks guys. I can not imagine that this is something of interest to anyone though. Maybe I won't cut it up and just throw it in the FS section, I hate cutting up perfectly good metal parts

Some guys like those dock bumpers. I've got one on my lifted 68C10 and like it. More useful and tough looking.

I was thinking about leaving it and just cutting the sides off. I do like the look of black diamond plate

I would have to agree with the others. That is probably a dealer installed bumper. Those were pretty common in the south and south-west. Many of them had the dealer's name actually cut into them, not some cheesy sticker like they do today.

I'm fairly sure that cdowns is correct, the rear bumper was an optional thing. They came to the dealer with nothing...even up the the next generation (73-87) the only "factory" rear bumper was the "sport" bumper. Those "sport" bumpers were just Blazer/'burb units installed onto a pick-up.

I have owned my 72 since 78 and still have the original bumper ..allthough it's not on my truck because I went to the sport rear bumper years ago

mine didnt wrap around but it has Hug Chevrolet Charleston Arkansas made into the bumper..basicall square with rounded corners

you bumper would be great on a 4x4 I would think

Well, it is on a 4x4, but I just do not like the "wrap around" look I think cutting it back a touch would look alright...maybe post I will post a pic in the photo shop section and see what the wizards can do for me as far as what it would look like if I cut the wrap around part off

My dad's 69 4x came with a wrap around bumper. If I remember the "wings" were screwed to the bed side which he disconnected, said it didn't make sense to bump a bumper and dent a body panel. Then he had problems with brush getting caught between the bumper and bed side. Guess you can't win.

Just wanted to add he bought the truck new in Albuquerque, New Mexico so I guess it is an out west thing.

if nothing is on the SPID, then it isn't original.
There was one or two 'step and tow' bumpers... but I don't think that is one. It IS however, a piece that was common back in the day.

It looks like the gap between body and bumper is too wide. There should be a smaller gap with a thin rubber strip seal that runs the length between bumper and body. The fit doesn't look right to me. My guess is that it is a barden bumper orginally off a 65 Chevy longbed fleetside.

this a reply i got when i asked about a bumper like this another members truck--
Those bumpers were only out west and back then.They are made to fit either a Stepside or Fleetside.That`s a rubber gasket between the body and bumper.My truck is original white and it`s held up fine.Most fleet vehicles are white these days. believe he said its called a barton bumper. hope this helps i personally love the look of them then again i'm an oddball....oops didnt read above post he said barton first.

Thanks guys, not sure what I am going to do with it. I just don't like the fact that it is bolted to the sides of the truck.

What does your SPID say? My 67 K20 actually says Rear Step Bumper on the SPID. Too bad the original bumper is long gone along with the 8 foot stepside bed.
