Simple steering question
Sorry for such a noob type question, but it's been bothering me.
On a crew cab dually, is it normal to really have to crank the steering wheel while going through a turn (while at speed)? My truck drives fine, I just can't remember if this is normal or not. The front end checks out good, just needs the rag joint replaced. But that wouldn't cause the need to turn the wheel completely upside down just to go through a curve in the road.

My dually crew cab does the same thing. Seems like you have to turn the wheel over several times for the simplest of turns/curves. My 87 3/4 ton reg cab is not like that at all.
I have just chalked it up to length /wheelbase of the truck.

OK, cool. I feel better now. It had been years since I last drove one of these older crew cabs and I couldn't remember.

Its because of the length and track width. The truck is so wide and long that the back end is still wanting to go straight after you turn the front end. its pretty normal.

If anybody has one, are new trucks (crew cab long beds) just as bad as the older trucks??

I've driven alot of those, fords mostly. They of course are just the same trying to maneuver in a parking lot, but they seem to turn a little faster while actually driving down the road.

Even 1/2 ton longbeds, in my opinion, you have to crank the wheel for low-speed manuvering.
It's a wheelbase thing; Even a big car (remember those?) i think you would have to crank the wheel for low-speed and parking type manuvering. I.e., pre 86 olds 88/98, chevy caprice/impala pre99 etc. P.S. It doesn't bother a real man/farmer type. i'm not saying that you're not a real man. i'm just saying that if you observe those types of guys, it doesn't seem to bother them; They know that it(having to crank the wheel) just comes with the territory.
