Steering Column Length Too Long?

I just picked up my first C10 yesterday and have start looking through it and fixing things. While driving it, it seems like the steering wheel is really really close to me. Is it possible for the steering column to be too long? The reason I ask is because the truck was originally a manual trans (clutch pedal is under the carpet) and obviously has a different steering column because of that. I think that is might not be the right one.

How far from the instrument cluster should the back of the steering wheel be?

Re: Steering Column Length Too Long?

You can move it back. If you have the collapsable steering shaft drill out the platic rivets, and with a little work you can get another couple inches out of it. There is a good thread on this, I will see if I can find it.

Edit: here you go. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=191143

Re: Steering Column Length Too Long?

Yea, it is a tight fit . I am 6'2 and go over 360lbs and I'm real close to the wheel in my 68. My 70 did'nt seam as bad but it has a bench seat and a smaller wheel. My 68 has the big wheel and buddy buckets that I think sets up a little bit higher. Jim
