how do i take the steering column out of my 62?

i got most of it done i just can figure out how to get the shifter linkage threw without messing anything up

You need to remove that floor plate to pull the column through thats how I got mine out anyway, good luck!

There is a square plate, secured with 4 sheet metal screws, covering the opening in the firewall...remove the four sheet metal screws from inside the cab, as well as, the three hex head shoulder bolts from the column clamp on the engine bay side of the firewall. After removing the bolt from the rag joint and slipping the rag joint of the gear box shaft, with a fork, you can remove the entire steering column from the inside of the truck, by angling it up toward the driver side "B" pillar and turning the shifter levers at the end of the mast jacket, to allow them to pass through the teardrop opening in the firewall. It is shaped this way to allow the column to be removed/installed without removing the shifter lever tabs & rag joint from the column. Having a spare set of hands is very helpful...one set at the steering wheel end and one set at the rag joint end, to avoid making contact with anything or causing any damage. It is not difficult, just be patience and take your time. I have removed several of them by myself, without incident. Good luck.
