lug conversion swap
Im looking to swap out my 5x5 lug pattern to a 4 3/4 camaro pattern. Is it a matter of changing spindles or is it just a rotor change? And on back end, just change axles? And then if anyone knows specific set ups that are proven to work id like the advice. Thanks.

This should be doable, but you might need some oddball rotors, like from a Vette or early full size passenger car with discs. Normal Camaro rotors are smaller, about 11".
You can usually get custom shafts for most rears, but if not, you can have your present shafts welded and re-drilled. For that matter, it might be possible to redrill the fronts if nothing else works For starts, what year and model truck do you have? If it's not a 71-72, how did you put the discs on it? Well i was told about performance online and they make a rotor that fits a 68 truck spindle and has the 4 3/4 pattern....cross drilled and slotted and shipped 3 day air they r only 170 bucks...BUT NOW......im gonna switch to tubular uppers and lowers w drop spindles and im wondering if the drop spindles have the same diameter of the stock ones. If they do ill get the rotors from perf online....sound bout right?

Normally, drop spindles have the same diameter bearing seats as the stock spindles they replace. However, that's not always the case if the replacement spindle is designed as part of a disc conversion kit.
For example, your 4-3/4 pattern rotor may be a Chevelle/Camaro part. These are about 11" diameter. The conversion kits which include spindles usually use the 71-up truck rotors which are about 12" diameter. Apart from the caliper/bracket issues, these two rotors use different bearings You don't really want to pay for shipping these parts back if they won't fit. To be on the safe side, try to find out what rotor the performance online spindle uses. From there it will be easy enough to check the bearing sizes. This is possible with all stock parts. 81-87 light duty 1/2 ton spindles and calipers , all the normal ball joint and tie rod changes to put 73-87 spindles on your 68 , then use a mid 80's camaro 1le rotor , kinda rare option , but any good parts store should be able to figure which one. This fits with all stock bearings for 81-87 light duty , you just need 12mm nuts for your 5x4 3/4 wheels.Hope this helps - Bob
