Thumbs up Rockwell T221

I'm clearing out my driveway! I've got a Rockwell T221 x-case married to a 3 spd. manual. I latched onto it as a spare for my '68 but I doubt I'll ever need it and if I did, it'd be a good time to convert to an Auto/205 setup. T-case rotates freely and seems to shift fine but I haven't cracked it open to take a look. Appears that it's never been separated from the adapter!

If you pick it up I'll take $100 for it.

Here is the kicker, if you pick it up tomarrow, 5-22-03, I'll consider any offer, reasonable or not. I'm in Arvada, Colorado and would rather not ship this so please come and get it!! Give me a call if you think you can make it by.

Is this the same 221 as behind a 465? If so how much just for the T221?

X-Case

Wow!! You really pulled this post out of the archives! It's been almost a year since I put it on hear! Oddly enough, I still have the Rockwell and 3 spd. Yes it is the same one that bolts behind a 465 as well. The adapter that bolts between them is different however but as long as you have the 465 adapter and sleave, it bolts right on. I've advertised this as a $100 Rockwell with free 3 spd. but since you worked so hard finding this post, I'd let it go for $75 but the kicker is you still have to take the 3 spd.! Also, I've got some pics I'll post later if you want.

Yeah, I'd like a few pics. I have the 465 and adapter but the outputshaft and coupler are worn badly. I bearing went out and broke things up inside the transfercase before I bought the truck. Is this the same coupler sleeve for a 4 speed?
Now all I need is to find someone heading in that direction.

I believe that the 3 spd. adapter is actually longer than the four spd. I've never split the case from the tranny so I'm not sure the exact differences but I'm positive the sleaves are different. When I first got my '68, it was in peices and the sleave was missing. I found out pretty quick that these are hard to find! I literally searched the country and finally talked to a salvage yard in California who pulled the sleave out of a cracked adapter for me. I hate to admit it but I paid $100 to get it shipped to my door! About two months later a friend of mine who has the same setup in his '69 Burb just happened to ask for the sleave at a farm equipment parts and supply place in Nebraska and for whatever reason they had two N.O.S. sleaves behind the shelf for $40/ea. He bought them both and gave me one so I ended up using the new sleave in my truck and still have the $100 used sleave sitting on the shelf. To make a long story even longer, I have an extra sleave but no adapter and unfortunately I have a lot of money into it. I suppose I could let the x-case and sleave go for $125 but it hurts a little!

Don't know if this helps but if you have the sleeve from the three speeds adapter, you can have it cut down to the correct length to use in the 4 speed adapter. I don't have an exact measurement, but pretty much cut off the necked down portion of the adapter to make it work with my 465 adapter.

You would think that would work but this sleave for the 4spd doesn't have straight through splines. It actually tapers to a larger inside diameter at each end to accomodate the output shaft of the transmission and input shaft of the transfer case as they taper to a larger outside diameter. It is the only adapter sleave I've ever seen that does this and was only used in '68 and some '69s with the Rockwell. '67s are different and of course they started going to the NP205s in '69. Dana 20s are different as well. Thus my country wide search to locate one!

Here is a pic of the sleave. Note the taper I was talking about. 10 spline, 3 3/8" long and 2" in diameter. That box has the GM part number in case anyone was wondering!
