Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I did it! I did it!

After owning my truck for nearly 13 years, I fixed the spedometer!! I replaced the spedometer cable for the second time and this time it works. The "old" new one was somehow stuck. My truck has been at the 38,908.8 mile mark for as long as I have owned it. I am prould to say in all this time I have not gotten a speeding ticket.

Now I wonder how many miles I have on the rebuilt motor I did nearly 10 years ago!

Keith

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Saturday I drove it over to a welding shop where a friend works and he redid my exhaust from the mufflers back and sent it straight out the back. Sounds good! Today I installed the fuel cell for good and got the lines ran up to where it'll tie into the original lines. Hope to have the bed back on it by the 12th for a carshow, shouldn't be a problem.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took it to see my grandfather [at the cemetery] he was in a wheelchair when I was restoring and allways asked why do you waste so much time working on it just buy a new truck. When it was done I was able to get him out for a ride with a little help from my friends and I will never forget that big smile he had and he liked it. He passed away 2 weeks later.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Put down carpet strips in the back of the Burb, cleaned it up a bit from its road trip to the swap meet last weekend, and started tearing down a 70 350 that's been sitting on the stand.

i pulled my truck up the driveway about 4 feet so my honey could shovel the load of bark out of it easier. Then I went in and watched TV =)

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I bagged the front of my truck - re-located shocks - got custom longer brake lines made - drug headers across the driveway - looks like shorty headers and new exhaust tucked up in the frame is next.

Always something else after you change anything but you gotta love it

You are such a gentlemen to do the things you do for her!

I put my wife to work by putting new mirrors on the doors, insulating the cab, new floor mat, installing the seat, installed a new glove box, and new speakers in the doors.

Last edited by oldiron; 06-02-2010 at 07:18 AM. Reason: Insulting the cab because so much money has gone in it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally found the blocked brake line and replaced it with new ones. Now have fluid going to all 4 corners.

Got Rusty out of the garage for the first time in a few weeks. She needs to get some "new" rubber and to hit the street for a bit.

What did that poor cab ever do to her to deserve insults?

That also opens a door for a lot of jokes but we'll leave that be

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

After taking my bed bolts out from the Vinegar from soaking some 12 hours.. I then washed them off and dried them and put a coat of primer on them. I only took the galvanizing off the heads so I can paint them the same color as the truck bed .
I put my rear bumper on and wrapped it in a blanket until I get the bed on which may be a few weeks ..

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Sealed up the axle and painted it. Welded on one last bracket for the adjustable panhard bar. Made tool to spread the ubolts slightly for ease of install. Shop bent them slightly narrow. Busy day tomorrow, but maybe by Friday I can finally get the rear end in the '71.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got the fuel lines ran...got my order in from McMaster Carr...they rock. Their tubing clips are great and cheap. $6.50 for 50 double 3/8" clamps. I was dumb and ordered 1/4" stainless bolts for them when the center hold is 3/16, so I had to drill out the holes.

Brake lines tomorrow.
