Then the "old piece of hose" can get the gash in it. LOL
It's the poor man's way but it'll last for years.
It's funny but I had to do that on the lower radiator hose as for the life of me I could not get right one in there

Ordered it for the 75 Blazer Tank that I got. There were two tanks that you could order. I got the 25 gallon one (there was a larger one). I believe the straps are for the larger tank so I am assuming I will probably have to do some modifying on the straps to get them to work. But I aint worried

You should try and find a lower radiator hose to fit a Ron Davis aluminum radiator that came out of Tony Stewart's test car to mate it up to my 79 Malibu. HAHA Yeah that is what I call fun! Glad I knew a guy that worked at Oriely's. He would let me just come in and go through all their hoses and take the ones I thought would work... hahaha Of course it had to be modified and customed too! hahah Keeps it cool though! I am sure it will do the trick with the new blower BBC too!

I hear you man! I love my Bu. It has a little 383 in it now. Doesnt run too bad but will be better before long! Doing a aluminum head solid roller 496 BBC for it soon that will be topped with a hi-helix 6-71 supercharger. Got all the parts just have to get the block machined. Maybe before long she will be together! hehe

You could get a shorter belt and rotate the alternator closer to the engine and trim off the extra length on the adjuster arm. Weld just the closed end of the piece you cut off back onto the shortened adjuster to keep it strong. You only need to lose about an inch to clear that hose.

Very true! I was thinking about that the other day looking at other people engine pics in the new thread! Seems like alot of them have shorter belts! I need a new belt anyways! Anyone have any belt numbers to help my search??

thanks

Re: What is wrong here?!?!

SweetandLong68, here’s what I’ve got going.
1968 short water pump SBC, non-ac, 2wd.

First pics are on my truck, clears the alternator adequately.
Bought from parts store, per application.

The 3rd picture is from my un-molested (doesn’t
mean the PO bought the right hose but it does look like it
would clear the alternator very well) parts truck.
The next picture confirms that that radical S-curve was used.

This picture is a radiator from a post-68 truck.

I think both configurations would give you the room you need for your alternator.

RockAuto says:
Gates #20617
Goodyear #20715
AC Delco #20608x

The above numbers would be for a hose like
the one on my truck.

IMHO-you would be better to get the right hose than
mess with cobbling it together/shielding the wrong
hose from harm or, gods-forbid, using a flex hose.

Good Luck..E

First off thanks for the part numbers. Will check them out.

Also I hear where you are coming from about using a correct fitting hose. I stated this exact thing in a previous post! I did what I had to do by protecting the hose I have now until I can get the 'mo better fitting hose.

THANKS!
CHRIS

BTW... Got any numbers on your altenator belt?

Chris, the belt is a Goodyear Gatorback 15530/Matchmaker #11AV1335.

However, realize this pulley system was built on a wing and a prayer...
nothing lined up but finally, I found I could use the pulley off my parts
truck BUT that one has an old style alternator (don't know if it's the
same diameter as mine) and no PS. The belt I had when it didn't line-up
luckily fit but I had fitted for what I had before. Sorry, don't know
how to word it better. Anyhow, because of this, I don't know whether
it's a stock configuration or not.

BTW-the Gatorback seems to have held up great for several years
without any noise or other problems.

If you go to Goodyear's site, you should be able to research the belts
length and decide from there.

Back in the day, we used to race and still had a bazillion belts laying
around so I finally found one that would work and bought by length.
Maybe short circuit the parts store and go talk to your local stock car
racers and see if they also have oodles of old belts you can test-fit.

If this has begun to be a fixation, you can go further, when you
find that RIGHT belt. The local parts guy will stretch it out and
usually get it wrong.
Find that old guy still running his service station and ask if he
has a belt measuring tool. And, no, it's not for sale.

Good Luck!...
this truly can be a PITA. Been there.
