There is a good possibility I will be relocating to Shreveport-Bossier City Louisiana.

Should I bring the 69 c10 and 72 Olds 442? How is the classic car scene? These are California rust free cars. Will they be destroyed by the wet weather? I'll be there at least 3 years maybe more.

So I pose the question ... storage or road trip? Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

On a side note can anyone tell me about the area?

ttt for you - it gets hotter and muggier than anything you are used to now. There seems to be a fair amount of guys on the board from that general area. I'm sure they'll jump in.

Thats about 3 hrs inland from the coast. I don't think you should worry about them rotting out.

I am from Shreveport and it is just dry heat.You should have no problem at all with any rusting issues.The casinos have really have made the city into a nice tourist place with lots of intertainment.

The car scene is real good in the area, there are a lot of board members in the area and we get together often.

Cool .... looks like I have some research to do on a shipping company. Thanks for the input!!! The 442 was born in Ca and has spent time in Spokane Wa and Vegas NV. The 69 has never been out of Ca as far as I can tell.

Keep the info coming I look forward to more info on the area.

come on down, the weather won't kill your rides unless you park them on unpaved ground uncovered (it is very hot, and the humidity averages about 80 to 90% year round). to set the distance straight you would be about 400 miles (about a 7 hour drive) from the gulf of mexico. i live 2 hours south of shreveport in alexandria, and things move a bit slower here. it's not perfect, but i would'nt trade it for a lot of places to live.

It's actually closer to 200 miles away from the Gulf but still nothing to worry about. (I was stationed there many years ago.)

do your mapquest, it's a lot further than 200 miles unless you go as the crow flys, but yes it is about a 4 hours due south into the marsh. all the CITIES are a lot further away.

Sounds like the cars will be fine. Found a place that will haul them for $1000 a car enclosed trailer. It is a little cheaper for open trailer - three to four hundred.

What is the weather like in Late September early October? I'll be driving down I-40 across Tx. I expect I may see some snow?

I did a google map direction to Port Arthur and it's 217 miles. I also did one to Cameron La and it's about the same... I am referencing a straight line that's why I said closer to 200 miles. Maybe google maps is way off???

Not the first time I have been told that .. lol. The kids would start a mutany if I sold it, they have grown up with it.

I appreciate the concern! I know pensacola .. eggland .. hurlburt field pretty well ... been down there a few times.

I have herd that a lot of the houses in Shreveport - Bossier City do not have garages?

You're not going to have to worry about salt bothering them in Shreveport.

no you won't have a concern with salt that far north (i'm 100 miles south of shreveport and i've never had a prob.), and as far as garages they were not common in 70's residential construction. many houses were built with just attached open carports, but that has all changed since the early 90's so if you shop in that time frame you'll see a lot of garages. i don't think you'll have a problem finding a house with a garage. i have relatives there and there are some real nice areas in north Louisiana

i'd be more concerned with my rides up north where they put salt on the roads for de-icing. i'm about 50mi from the coast and i'm not worried about them rusting. i, like you i'm sure, take care of my rides so i keep them clean. plus, you're alot closer for cruzin' the coast in MS. i highly recommend going. welcome to the south.

That is an easy fix ... during bad weather or salty roads they'll be put up!!
