SBC to Inline swap?
I've been contemplating this. What all is involved? I have automatic trans, will it need to be moved back to put an inline in the stock location?
What else do I need to know?

Re: SBC to Inline swap?
Yes it will have to be moved.
You may have already thought of some of these: Shorter driveline. You may not be able to use the V8 fan shroud. The shift linkage may need to be extended to reach back further. Transmission cooler lines extended. New motor towers. Exhaust mods. May need to modify the wiring harness to reach new sending unit location. Depending on whether you have PS and AC you may need new hoses and brackets too. |

Re: SBC to Inline swap?
Factory 6 and V-8 engines are mounted in the same location. GM has better things to do than make two different sets of throttle, shift and clutch linkages, driveshafts, oil cooler lines, etc. My truck was changed from a 6 to a V-8 by a PO and the bellhousing is still in the same place where the General put it.
Still not convinced? http://www.persh.org/pickup/perches.htm Ray |

Re: SBC to Inline swap?
I think 4WD is the only one that have 6 and 8 in the same mount location.
I own a 70 GMC that is mounted in the front holes. I also own a 71 chevy that came with a 6 that mounted in the rear holes. I also have swapped to a V8 using the original I6 mounts. It was a standard and moving the bellhousing was out of the question. |

Re: SBC to Inline swap?
It is true that the wholes on the frame are different for the 6 and 8, but that is because of different lengths of the engines I think.
Now the bell housings/transmissions maybe in the same location for both I am thinking. Hopefully someone will chime in that has done the swap.

Re: SBC to Inline swap?
Cant say about a 4x4 cause I've only had 2 of them and they were V8s.
However I've had 52 trucks and I can say that V8 and V6 are in different locations. Holes are stamped in the frame for this difference.
