Side marker light fill question.
I've been trying to figure out how to put a side maker light fuel fill on my truck for a while now. Right now I'm thinking I have the wrong black plastic bucket. Could someone verify this or tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I need?
If you look here, none of the holes in the bucket line up so I can bolt them to the bedside. I know I need to weld a small fill plate in the front and rear of the marker light opening, but I still wouldn't be able to attach the bucket to it. Any help will be appreciated. |

Re: Side marker light fill question.
Thanks, I'm trying to keep the fill on the outside because I may be putting a cover over the bed at some point. I may end up making a bucket and welding it to the inside of the bedside.

Re: Side marker light fill question.
Have you seen this one in the FAQ section? It is for a step bed but the plastic part looks similar to yours.

Re: Side marker light fill question.
When planning this install I probably looked at that thread a hundered times. Yet I don't remember seeing those pictures. Guess I do have the right part and I see how it works. Thanks

Re: Side marker light fill question.
usmcchevy, first off, thanks for your service. Currently I am working on my marker light install. Seems like a easy mod, but last Saturday I was ready to explode in my garage with frustration. Wondering how you made out with your fill mod? If you havent completed it yet, check this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=295518 I am interested in you sharing ideas or pictures on this. I definately will once mine is complete.

Re: Side marker light fill question.
Have you thought about putting the filler behind the tail light? HuggerCST has a cool one. Then I saw this one from another member on the site. Working on my brothers truck

Re: Side marker light fill question.
maybe i am dumb but is it safe to put gas in a hole that has wiring in it? especially if the wire gets exposed through wear and tear.

Re: Side marker light fill question.
Almost every fuel injected car since the mid 80's has an electric fuel pump and the associated wiring inside the tank. If the wire has the ability to arc to ground, you need to fix your wiring first of all, but also I don't generally leave my lights on while fueling up so I wouldn't be too concerned with it.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=filler+idea Instead of machineing down the boat filler like Hart_rod, I have this one and just cut the plastic mounting ring off: http://www.iboats.com/Deck-Fuel-Fill...view_id.167234 I should be getting different bed sides the week..........should be anyway. When (and if at this point ) I get them on I'll post pics of the finished product. |

Re: Side marker light fill question.
Good info. I'm already committed as I've cut a hole in the inside of my bed, so the brakelight idea is out for me. I am going to get this, just going to take some time. Thanks to all whom have posted pictures. Lots of good ideas out there.... Will definately contribute pictures and a write-up when I complete this. Hopefully this weekend....
