Stiff Brake Question??

I just bought a 68 short step that has been sitting in a barn for about 15 years.

The P.O. got it out and tuned it up and I drove it home (about 15 miles) and the brake pedal is real stiff but it will stop.

When I got home I noticed that brake fluid is leaking from the top of the master cylinder from under the cover.

It's power discs and the booster is working because i turned it off to check the pedal and it was even harder that normal.

He said he bled them so I haven't bled them myself yet.

Anyone ever had this problem before?

Re: Stiff Brake Question??

If it has disc brakes then it has been updated at some time in its life...which is good. As far as potential issues...I step aside and let those who have more knowledge than I ansswer you question. Congrats on the puchase of your 68.

Re: Stiff Brake Question??

i'd check to see that it has proper master cyl and prop valve setup for a disc/drum setyp// i'd pull the rear drums to check and make sure the shoes arent frozel to the backing plates with drums off of course also check for cyl leak and condition of shoes and that the adjuster rotates freely

Re: Stiff Brake Question??

im surprised the brakes work after 15 years sitting, i would towed it home! sitting id check the rubber lines and make sure they aren't about to blow from dry rot(not your prob your asking about), hate to see that truck ruined going into the back end of a dump truck or something.
