Should I or not?
I have been arguing with myself for about a year now on whether to move my engine forward a little. It is very close to the firewall and I think it is because some previous owner used the 6 cylinder mounts on the 350. I have decided I do want to move it, so what is the easiest way to solve my problem?

Get a pair of V-8 frame mounts and put them in the forward holes. Then you will have to shorten the shift linkage rod, move the shifter pivot bracket on the frame, move the trans crossmember forward, find a longer driveshaft, re-bend the trans cooler lines, adjust or lengthen the throttle rod, lengthen the exhaust pipe or pipes, maybe shorten the radiator hoses, and lengthen the heater hoses, and fuel line from the tank and a few other things I forgot... if you have a lazyman rubber line from pump to carb put a metal fuel line in b4 the fire

We did not want to change the length of the driveshaft so when we transplanted a 454 into my truck that previously had a 350 we had to just let the 454 settle in and drill holes in the frame. Don't forget the lower bolt hole will either have to be drilled or the area welded.

I guess I have talked myself out of moving the engine. I seem to remember something about a smaller cap HEI dist cap? Anyone else remember?

Ive seen the smaller hei dizzy caps but I dont remember where. Skip Whites maybe? e bay, Hmmm

The smaller ones have a separate coil instead of the coil being in the cap. LockDoc

I have exactly the same problem to the point that I can't fit an HEI in due to it hitting the firewall. In the end I've bought a pertronix conversion kit for the twin point mallory that was in there and one of their coils and will live with it where it is for the moment.

It is more just a matter of what you prefer. Personaly I would find a set of v-8 engine brackets and move the engine forward. Thats just me though. I don't like looking under the hood and being able to tell at a glance that the truck is an original in-line truck. To have the motor centered more in the engine bay looks better to me also. It is a bunch of work to move it but worth the effort and cost to me. WES
