This is my first stab at rust repair. The truck was free so I'm putting in the work. Replacing all four cab supports, lower door pillars (front & rear), cab corners, front and rear floor panels and will eventually get to the inner roof. I know it's a ton of work and I could have gone with another cab but the truck was free and I think i have the skills to do the job right. Coming along nicely so far.

You're right, you DO have the chops to do the repairs. Very impressive. You're basically cutting away the entire bottom and replacing it; to be followed by cuttng away half the top and replacing it. Woulda been easier to just bolt the doors onto a new cab but what fun would that have been? Lol. How many hours do you think it'll take you beginning to end?

Although it doesn't seem you need the practice....why not just put in a new floor??....Nice work!!!

I am doing the same repairs right now. All of your fabrication looks great . I have the same welder as you, what settings are you using , and what size wire?

I did a rocker panel and am about to do the cab corner in my 64. You are braver than I am! Looks like it's coming together nicely though!

I am always amazed at the skills of the people on this forum. The trucks that have been brought back from the DEAD. In Arizona we would call that scrap, still a lot of rust free cabs in the southwest.

So far about 20 hours, when its all said and done i'm sure i'll be in the neighborhood of 200 hours.

Honestly didn't know they made whole floor pans until i had already bought the front and rear pans

No worries.....I just wondered why spend all that time when they make the whole thing.....might of been easier, but at that price and your skills, you got it all figured out.....nice work again....

Looking good, I've got two trucks to look forward to doing that too. I didn't figure yall'd have that bad of rust problems in Georgia. They use so much road salt around here in the winters. I know of trucks that've been fixed 2 to 3 times, not because of quality of work but because of rust caused by the salt! Welcome to the rust belt! I just wanta get mine running for starters then go from there one at a time LOL!

Thanks, I don't know if it's the salt or the fact that the damn thing sat in the elements for 15 years! Probably a combination of both..lol

Nope didn't brace anything and maybe I should have. It will just be a little more work down the road. The passenger side was pretty much rusted out anyway so if things were going to move they had already done it. The driver side is still intact and I've taken some measurements and both sides are pretty close. Before I weld the rear lower door pillar to the outer floor pan I will triple check my measurements (comparing them to the drivers side) and just take my time constantly checking my fit with the doors.
