Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

Appears to have the correct stripes, body color bumper, hood ornament, grille etc ...looks to have original paint...95 % sure it is a Sport

Not much money for any kind of a short bed.

If it was closer I would own it....2400 miles from our shop

those trucker mirorrs are OBSCENE. that will be a cool project. As to the stripes, these vinyl guys these days can replicate those down to the 1/2 inch w/ some good pics. they can get any color under the sun and should be no problem. plus the stuff is so much better quality than 1977 era stuff.

good luck!

You should have seen the Yosemite Sam "Back Off" mud flaps that were eventually added

The pictures I posted are my best pictures (scanned from 30 year old 110 prints). They are probably good enough for the stripes but the "Chevy Sport" lettering is really hard to see. Hopefully I'll find some better pictures online someday.

Here is my friend's 1980 Sport. It had a straight six 250 and a 4 speed with a granny first gear. The exhaust pipes were custom made--dual exhaust big rig style with perforated chrome heat shields and rain flaps. The air horns had an electric compressor with a small tank and couldn't produce enough volume for more than a short blast. The hood ornament was eventually replaced with an actual Mack truck dog. I think his mud flaps had a Mack reference too. He had no affiliation with Mack--just had fun adding accessories. His CB handle was Lil' Mack.

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

I saw a Desert Fox Jimmy drive through an intersection I was stopped at last night. Can't mistake those stripes. Looked to be original except for about a 4" lift & corresponding tires. Don't ask what, when it goes up I know nothing about it. It was cool though, especially after seeing this thread. Wasn't fast enough with the iPhone to snap a picture.

OH MY GOSH!!!! I had a truck just like this!!! It was my first truck and pretty much my first thing I drove when I got my driver licenses. I was 16 and my dad had bought me a brand new Monte Carlo SS for my first car. He told me as long as I took good care of it and did good in school it was mine. Needless to say he got a call from the school about me doing donuts in the school parking lot. He took it away from me and sold it....

I had saved $2000.00 and was looking for a truck.... The next day a add in the news paper comes out for a 1977 swb truck in Odessa, 30 miles from me as I lived in Midland Tx at the time... We went and looked at it in the guys back yard.... It was just like the one above except no horns or cab lights on the outside, but it had a headache rack with a extra gas tank below that. But it was just like this truck.... This truck and me cruised every night and everyone knew me for this truck.... At the time, being 16 naturally I didnt take care of it and in no time I had blew the engine in it. Rebuilt the engine and replaced many transmissions in it. The paint was going bad and I sanded it down and primed it and it stayed that untill I traded it for a vega drag car body...
This one of the many cars/trucks I wish I had never got rid of... I have a video of the day I got it and some random video of when I was rebuildng the engine but far as I know no pics of it.... I know this posting is old but thanks for posting this these pics just made my day!

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

Hey 80SPORT (if you even get this message, this thread is so old) could you post some close-up pics of where it says Chevy Sport at the rear of the bed? I've got a buddy that's getting his truck painted like his dad's old sport that got wrecked back in the day. He's just going to paint the stripe on (it's just orange, that fades to red), but it would be really cool if he could get the lettering made. If it matters, his dad's truck was an 81 Chevy fleetside. White on bottom, maroon on top, w/ the sport stripe in the middle.

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

Pictures of a NOS stripe we use as a reference ...

You can email me at z77@shaw.ca if you need more detail.

Correct for 1981 ...79/80 were different

Truck should be dark carmine red (maroon) with a santa fe tan(beige) lower

Re: Desert Fox, Chevy Sport, and Sun Tiger

I ran across this on ebay...

77 Chevy Sport Model Kit, Sealed I've seen sealed models of that truck go for $300 before. I'd have bought one anyway if i thought there was even a chance the decals were still good enough to put on the truck. Of course I'da painted it white like mine though

Here's some pics I saved of another kit just like that one. I founds them a while back. IIRC the date on that kit was 1977.

i ALMOST pushed the buy it now button on that kit like 5 times for $120... I didnt get it because of the decals being so old, and so large. they would break apart if they didnt desintegrate in water. If I cant assemble it, I don't want it as keeping boxed stuff isn't my thing. I build it and then keep it...lol

It's a Clone. There are way too many inconsistencies starting with the year.
