Re: Been going to car shows
That guy was just a bully picking on a kid. If one of us old guys were standing next to your truck he would have said nice truck or nothing at all.

Re: Been going to car shows
People are gonna always have something smart to say. My truck started life as a 70 gmc. Don't worry about others and enjoy what a nice truck you have......

Re: Been going to car shows
I think your truck looks great. When I first saw it my initial thought was "Are those Dodge Wheels?"

Re: Been going to car shows
I agree with everybody else that has said its your truck and do what you want, but I just wanted to share my experience with my build. I started it about 4 yrs ago and at that time my plan was running some 20-22 inch billet wheels. Well 4 yrs my tastes have totally changed and there is no way I would put modern looking big billet wheels on a 30+ yr old truck. To me, it just doesn't fit. I have grown to LOVE vintage, period correct styling. My point is you're young and your tastes will evolve and change. I have a feeling that at some point, you will either lower your truck so those rims tuck OR you will change wheels. BUT if you like it the way it is now, leave it alone and enjoy it.

Re: Been going to car shows
My personal preference is stock type wheels, but your truck is very nice. I would never be so rude as to make a comment like that to someone. My dad has a 71 GMC stepside, 6cyl 3OTT, manual brakes and steering, radio delete, all original except for dark grey metallic paint and newer 80's GMC poverty caps. It even still has the dealer installed painted steel rear bumper that wraps around to protect the rear fenders . He has had all kinds of hater comments like " you should drop a v8 in it" or "GMC's are ugly", but even more people comment on how you don't see anyone redoing a stripped down farm truck like his any more. To people with negative comments, he just says "The great thing about living in the USA is everyone has a right spend their money on what they want, and to build what they like. What kind of car or truck did you bring out?" Without exception, the haters stammer and stutter the fact that they don't have one, or it is in pieces in the back yard, but they're "gonna fix it up" one day. Which leads to another of my dad's favorite time killers. (It must be nice to be 72 years old and retired) When we were looking for a truck to redo, if we saw a truck in somebody's yard, etc we would stop and knock on the door. Six or eight people said "no, we are gonna fix it up" or something along that line. After we finished his truck, he went back by to "inquire" about the truck again. Some people recognized him and he showed him his truck after it was "fixed up" and pictures of what it looked like before. (we redid his truck in less than a year, body off frame, because it was really clean, complete and option free.) It did motivate one guy to get working on his, a 58 Chevy 1/2ton, and another at least put his 65 Chevy 1/2 ton under a shed instead of sitting out in the pasture.
