Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?

Just an idea, If I were you, to do it on the cheap/quick, do a little bodywork and then get a vinyl wrap to get you by. My brother just had his done and the shop he used had an S-10 of similar condition of your truck that they put a flat blue wrap w/ company logo on it for a parts runner truck. Looked really cool! May want to ask someone in the biz to see what would need to be done to prep it so it sticks.

Not yet but I am planning on it. Right now it holds a seat, AC brackets...the kids bikes but seriously it's a truck and that's the cool thing about it. Fun and useful...and if your not worried about some scratches...

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?

When I get them road worthy, both of mine will be work trucks. I plan on making the 67 a 4x4, as it'll be more useful in my life. Nice to see I'm not the only one, I have a couple friends, father and son that have used the two they have for work trucks for years. The 71 the son drives that has been converted to 3/4 ton 4x4, they've had since 72 I believe. The other one is a 69 factory 3/4 4x4. Both show alot of wear and tear, they are loggers and also haul gravel. One of the dump trucks they run is a 67 or 8 C/60.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?

I use mine daily as a ranch truck. I often haul 2000lbs + of hay in the bed and deliver to customers, or tow my 20' trailer loaded with hay or firewood or ?? It's tough, dependable, and will go anywhere!

Re: Anyone using their truck as a work truck?

Just a short story. My son and his wife restored her grandpa's '70 C-10 truck so she could drive it and remember her grandpa.

They did such a good job she is afraid to drive it because it might get scratched or worse. It now occupies a space in his garage rarely driven.

This is what our's looks like now:

I'm thinking some body work and paint... toolbox, ladder rack, new rims, 3/4ton springs to handle loads/towing.

BTW, it will have it's factory drivetrain - 350, TH400.
Are you in Front Royal? I think I have seen your truck around....had a load of wood in the back over the last 2 weeks or so......

To the OP:
Yup I sure do use my truck as a work truck. It is the only car I own at the time and I drive it every day. I've put everything from full loads of split oak, to 15 kegs of beer, to a weeks worth of camping gear, to a built Olds455 with attached TH400, to mulch, scrap metal, motorcycles, and bricks in the back of it. And I've only owned it for about a yeah and a half. It has also pulled 5000 pounds of car and trailer across the Blue Ridge Mountains on a number of occasions. It is an old GMC, not a rare as hens teeth Studebaker or other odd ball truck. Use it for what it is.
