The old heap runs again.
I don't have a tach and I'm not sure I ran it long enough, but I got it running, raised the idle way up, and let it sit there and run that way for a few minutes. I didn't even panic when the thermostat popped and water went gushing out the radiator cap opening (didn't have the cap on). I just let it hoarf on the floor and let it keep going. The accessory drive pulleys were a problem before (not aligned) and still are a problem now. I'm gonna see if I can get the damper on the crank another 1/4 inch and see if that helps. Looks like it will, and that's about all the room there is to go in farther. So it'll have to do. I recall there was long and short snout water pumps, and it mattered which one of those you had to be sure the pulleys would work. Not sure I'm fighting that or not. I dunno the difference just to look at them, and the engine is a mongrel. 1969 307 block in a 1980 truck, originally 6 cylinder. So, who knows? Still got a few bugs to work out, but it's a runner. So that's a good thing.

Well, the engine might be worthy of a picture. I have it apart again for a drive belt pulley alignment issue. But I should have it together again pretty quick. I'll take an engine bay pic. The truck itself looks like a scene from your local friendly junk yard.
