Howdy y'all
Has anyone out there replaced the side trim on your pickups? I bought a complete kit for mine but it came with no instructions. do you put the clips in first and then slide the trim onto them or slide the clips on the trim and pop it into place. just got the truck painted and I don't want to screw up the paint job.

on my used set on my 63 I put the clips on the trim, and then snapped it on.
also be careful not to push too hard, somtimes if the clip won't go in the hole you will end up denting the trim from the inside out.

the fenders trim and cab corner trim (all 4 pieces) should bolt on.

concur with jonzcustomshop - you want to mount the clips onto the trim OFF the truck first - then hold it close to the truck and do final sliding adjustments of the clips on the trim to make them line up with the holes - then just pop it in. I like to get them just all just barely started and then work my way down popping them all in - to avoid bending the trim (i.e. a possibility if you force one in and the one right next to it is not in at all yet).

You don't want to mount the clips to the truck and then slide on - will end up scratchin the paint for sure.

Also, just to be on the safe side (because I KNOW I would do this) and avoid scratching your paint when you are "popping it in" - might want to put some wide strips of the blue or green paint masking tape around where the trim goes to avoid scratching the paint anyway (i'd put a row above and a row below where you're gonna mount the trim and make the opening between just slightly smaller than the width of the trim - that way you can easily pull it off after mounted - and if you scratch in between the two strips, it won't matter since the trim will cover it up.

^^^^Good advise there. The tape idea is a good one as well, it could save you some grief.

Wow great answers guys, thats why I like this forum. The experience level of the members here is great. My truck should be home from the paint shop friday. I'm gonna be "really careful" about putting the trim on. Pray for me that I dont screw it up.
