What exhaust to use??????

I have a 69 chevy c10 with a 250 inline six. My plan is to save up to put on a Clifford Performance intake and exhaust headers. But what muffler to use. I want a muscle sound not a killer bee sound.

What are your thoughts??

Well do you want it to be loud or do you want it to sound deep. I have 40 series flowmasters on mine running out the back its not loud at all but its deep sounding for sure.

Walker Dynomax Super Turbo gives a nice deep muscle car tone without being annoyingly loud like the 40 series Flowmasters. They are also a good deal and well made.

You mean no rasp? Large case magnaflow, di/do with built in x-pipe. Having no crossover will likely rasp

Re: What exhaust to use??????

I used a turbo muffler on my inline (non-header setup) and it sounds really good; no killer bee sound.

For pictures, check out my build thread in my signature (Project Blank Slate).

Re: What exhaust to use??????

right now i have a factory style single exhaust w/ 2-1/2" pipe all the way through and a glasspack muffler in place of the stocker (that i blew up w/ engine backfire).

planning to upgrade to a magnaflow s.s. 2-1/2 dual x-pipe system bolted up to the stock ram horns. might get them ceramic coated to dress them up.

Re: What exhaust to use??????

The inline 6 exhaust sound is purely a matter of personal preference. Either you love it or you hate it.

The best sounding 6 I ever heard belonged to a friend of mine who made his own headers. He connected 1, 3, and 5 to one outlet and 2, 4, and 6 to the other. This works only with a full dual system. Even after I pointed out to him why it was not a good arrangement for performance, he still kept it anyway because he liked the sound so much. And I liked it too.

Re: What exhaust to use??????

Here's a clip with my dad's 53 with a 235, Clifford Headers and Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flows. The 235 has a deeper, throatier exhaust note than the 194-292 engines, but this should give you an idea. I used to have headers and just cheap IMCO turbos on my 250. It sounded OK, but it never had the throaty sound that a good set of chambered mufflers would've had.
