rear end questions

Two quick questions for you guys, I'm rebuilding my rear end. Is this as far as the pinion oil seal goes in? This is where the previous one seated. The lip is about 3/32" from seating flush with the carrier.

Also do the axle bearings need to be greased initially? My repair manual doesn't specify.

Thanks.

Dan

Re: rear end questions

That does not look right, are you sure that it's the same as the one that came out?
The term "rebuilding" scares me a little. How far have you taken this apart?

Re: rear end questions

It's the exactly the same as the one I took out and is seated the same as the one I took out. I didn't think it looked right so that's why I asked. I did not do anything to the pinion bearings.

I guess rebuilding is a strong word. I just replaced the axle bearings, oil seals and the pinion seal.
