Another Vortec Question
I found some rebuilt Vortec heads on Craiglist fr $300, casting number 906, I've read on here that, they may/may not flow as good as others, but they have to flow better then the heads on my '69. Does this seem like a fair price, and how much better would say the Summit Vortec heads be. I'll probaly be goin this weekend to look at them. Thanks

Re: Another Vortec Question
In my dealings with Vortec heads I found that they are a good addition if they are coupled with a good combo of cam and intake and exhaust. Without knowing more about your engine, I doubt anyone will really be able to tell you if they will do you any good are not. On a old worn out stock sbc, I wouldnt install them. I would personally save the money for a good aftermarket head and cam package, or find a good set of double hump heads and have them ported and polished. Or just look around on craiglist for a good rebuildable 350 (see them all the time for $500.00 and less) and rebuild it over time. Just my 2 cents worth...

Re: Another Vortec Question
The bottom end is still good(66000 miles) and I plan on getting a different cam and the vortc intake. Right now I'm just getting the peices together. I was just wondering if if seems like a good deal or not, thanks

Re: Another Vortec Question
Vortec heads are a good deal IF you haven't bought your intake manifold yet. Back in 2002 when I bought my Vortec heads I paid $500 for ready to bolt on. They claim as good almost as some aftermarket aluminum heads. I had not yet bought my intake so I could go either way. IF you already have the intake then I would match the heads to the intake you have.

Re: Another Vortec Question
the 906 castings are the best vortec castings to get, it would be a great improvement over stock 69 heads. I ran a set on a 350 with a mild roller cam and rpm intake im my shortbed and was running consistent 13.10 at 105mph

Re: Another Vortec Question
If they are rebuilt, that is a good price, I would pay that for them expecially since I know what a difference they made on my ride. When you do your top end, make sure you have the correct intake, because they are a totaly different fit than the originals. A mild cam helps out as well.
FYI, See if he will throw in the pushrods, you will need a different length than stock.
