57 4x4 drivetrain question

I was wondering if I swapped cross members and drivetrain from a 71 4x4 into the 57 would I have any clearance problems in between the cab and drivetrain? Basically I have a 350/4spd/np205 and would like to put it into my 57, other than cross members, would I have to modify anything else?

Re: 57 4x4 drivetrain question

axles will mount to the springs. See my build thread for other issues like crossmembers, etc. I kept the crossmember at the front spring rear shackles for frame stiffness but I have seen guys take they out. With the 4 speed it might not be an issue to leave it. If you pull the stock one I would replace it with some sort of cross member. Lots of room between the cab and drive train. Mine is 74 350/th350/np203

IMO it would be less work to keep the 57 bellhousing crossmember. The 71 bellhousing will mount on it like stock.

the sm465 from the 71 doesnt have a bellhouse mount like the 57 tho, the mount is in between the tranny and transfer-case.

read through your thread, it gave me a good idea of what I want to do. I have a universal tubular engine mount Im going to use because I really dont like the look of the stock mounting.

Do you have any pics of your brake booster and how it is set up? I got this truck from my dad, at one time he had a guy start rebuilding it but he was just dicking around so we took it back. The trucks pieces are scattered and I dont really know what Im looking for lol.
