Sub Rear Bumper

Need a bumper for my 1960 GMC Suburban [rear]. I know that none are made specificaly for the sub but what are you guys using? I'm thinking that a Fleetside bumper might work but I thought I'd throw it out here first. Will the Fleetside width be the same as the sub? Fabbing brackets not a problem.
Thanks
Bob

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

Isn't the sub rear bumper the same stamp as the front bumpers with different holes?

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

Yes the Suburban rear bumpers are basically the same as the front bumpers. The difference is in the location of the mounting holes since the rear of the frame is wider than the front. On the '63-'66 2wd Suburbans the rear bumper has a mounting bolt dimension of 32" center to center, and the front is 26 1/4" center to center. The '60-'62 2wd Suburban frames are wider just as the pickups are, but I don't have those dimensions handy. I believe the '60-'62 Suburbans use a bolt on bracket to mount the rear bumper. I may be able to get a pic of that bracket tomorrow.

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

The fleetside bumper has the notch for the license plate, which the Suburbans and panels don't have.

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

pu bumper will not work properly due to the dip as the sheet metal on the rear of a sub or panel is higher than the dip and the sheet metal has a rubber seal along that edge

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

here are some decent shots of rear sub bumps...
first three are 60-62, notice how far outboard the bolt holes are.
last one is a 63-66 notice the bolt holes are farther in.
sub rears and front bumpers have a little crown to them, wheras a fleet rear is basically flat.
you could probably get away with hanging a front on there until you find the correct sub/panel rear.
would just either have to drill some holes or fab up some custom brackets..

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

Here are a couple of pics of the mounting brackets on a rear bumper for a '60-'62 Suburban/Panel. I got sidetracked and didn't get a measurement on the bolt spacing. I'll try and get those dimensions tomorrow.

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

I think I'll try to hang a front bumper with fabbed brackets and see how that looks. I'm aware of the step in the Fleetside bumpers and can'i decide whether that would stop me from buying one..Thanks all for the help and pics especially helpful..

Re: Sub Rear Bumper

OK. the bolt spacing on the '60-'62 Suburban/Panel rear bumpers is 44 1/2" center to center.

Post some pics when you get something fabbed up Big Fenders.

Uh....Let get back to the Purple Sub for a moment. There seems to be some sort of blockage of sorts to see the entire bumoer. Good Blockage though
