help with drum brakes
I have factory drum brakes I installed a new MC. The old one I took off was a reman delco unit the new one was exactly the same. I bled everything and now it pulls to the right. Everything worked fine before I replaced it. The old one work but was really rusty and leaked. The back seam. To lock up before the front do. I've herd bout residual valves but I don't see any in the lines or the old MC. I'm getin fed up with these drums and about to switch to discs and prop valve. I drive this truck a lot so I want it to stop safely. Any help is a big help. O its a 69 GMC swb

Pull to the right all the time or when you press the brakes? Either way it sounds like the manual adjuster needs to be adjusted. The lever inside the drum with a round notched adjuster on it. There should be a small whole (if its already been knocked out) in the drum that gives access to get to the lever with a flathead screwdriver. Adjust it so that the drum spins the same on both side. It is designed to self adjust whenever the truck goes in reverse and you press the brakes. Also check to make sure that both wheels are getting fluid. Had a bad rubber line once.

Yep, adjustment problem or air in the left line. When you put a new part on you find everything else that was wrong too, an old weak MC probably didn't make enough pressure to make it pull.

Ya I've bled them 3x and adjusted them also they seam to have the same drag on them. Ill have to replace the hoses and see what that dose.

Yea I have had hoses balloon on me. I guess if it did that on one side it could cause a pull.

i'd take the drums off and check for indication of a leaking wheel cylinder

Also make sure that the drum and shoe surface is spotlessly clean. Any old brake fluid or grease can cause it to lock up.

I was having a very similar issue with mine, except mine pulled to the left. I pulled the left drum off and it was obvious that the shoe was "gunky" with something and the grease seal was pretty rough. So I changed the grease seal, cleaned the drum, replaced the shoes, replaced the brake cylinder while I was there....Problem solved. I now have excellent brakes.
