I'm not sure that the "silver-looking color" was in all the trucks, but I have a '67 Suburban and a '68 C/10 stepside that use that interior color. Both trucks were built at Fremont, Calif. Incidently it was called "Fawn" or Silver Fawn Irridescent. Year One and/or Paddock Parts carry it in spraycans.

I have a 68 with painless wiring, and my headlights do this also. I thought something was wrong.

what year were you able to push down the thumb lock(inside) and shut the door without having to hold in the outside doorhandle, and the door would stay locked?

Was the Chrome Flasher switch another unique thing to the 67?... didnt the later models use a colored plastic switch?

Re: unigue to 67'

My '67 GMC is dark green exterior paint with a light green metallic interior paint and trim, no arm rests at all. West coast style mirror brackets that bolt to the 3-bolt mount and on the upper door frame.

If it's a real '68, yeah something is wrong. The amber lights should stay on when the headlamps are energized on a stock-wired '68. Someone at Painless must've sold you the wrong package from a '67. [Although they usually tend to update earlier wiring systems with stuff like extra circuits for stereo, HEI, SI Delcotron -One Wire -- and like that.] Unless I'm jumping on a typo: '68 when you meant to say '67?. If so, disregard.

Not in this vintage. '67 to '72. On these trucks, you had to roll up the windows, slam the door and push down the button to lock the passenger door, then roll up, close, and key-lock the driver's side door. It makes it damn hard to lock yourself out or lock the keys in. Although I have managed to do it.
I call it the Turnip Truck Feature, so us'n dumb-ol turnip farmers don't lock ourselves outta the truck for when we all goes to town to sell the turnip crop, see.

I'm a big fan of the TTF (nice name for it, BTW). I've never been able to lock my keys in the truck, so I'm curious how you did it.

The drivers side vent window had a loose handle. There's a warped washer inside the handle shaft that holds tension normally -- it was missing. So the vent lock would just fall forward to lock. I rolled up the window and closed the door, reached in thru the vent window and pushed down the lock button. [I think I meant to "dummy lock" the door. I was late for chow, and couldn't find my keys.] When I closed the vent window, it flopped down the vent lock and there I was. Locked out. Kinda reminds me of that "Blonde-Star" parody of OnStar that was on the internet a couple of years ago.
Of course the keys were in the dash. After chow I found somebody with a coathanger.

(Manual chokes came on all 67 and 68s unless equipped with a 327 or 396 Q-jet.) quoted from Too Much Stuff's post

My 67 Custom has the manual choke with the 327.

Someone early in this thread stepped on one of my pet-peeves.....There is no such thing as "standard option". It's either standard equipment or an option, can't be both.

Re: unigue to 67'

I've got the old style Rochester 4 Jet. Pretty sure it's original, truck only shows 89,xxx and from everything I've seen on it I believe it's original mileage. Fairly certain nothing has been changed.

Re: unigue to 67'

The frame rails are wider on the top, in the engine mounting area. So if you plan on headers or a big block you need to trim 2" off the top of the rails, to widen them for exhaust manifold(header) clearance. 68 and up have this done from the factory.

Hi Steve, I'm guessing these might be tough ones! No one else seems to have run into them. Maybe just a supply shortage on truck wheels and this was the answer on a Friday afternoon? Sharpie

Re: unigue to 67'

That steering wheel was used on many 67 GM cars and apparently some trucks. Both the wheel and cap are currently being reproduced. Here are a few links to them on ebay.

Steering Wheel

Horn Cap

Re: unigue to 67'

Getting back to the 67 arm rests. Other than physical size difference are the screws in different locations? Can you install the later 68-71 arm rests on the 67? If not optioned for the arm rest, is it just the inner door panel with out the screw holes or plugs in the panel itself?

Sammy, my '67 dosen't have holes in the metal door panel but the door itself does have the mounting bosses for the arm rests. Apparently my truck was a "PLAIN JANE".
