differences

Im some what of a newbie to the 67-72s. Im going to check out 2 71 GMCs this weekend with the hopes of buying one. Im partial to the Chevy grills over the GMC. Can they be interchanged?

Can they be interchanged? Im sure they can. The question is, if you go with same year chevy grill do you have to swap fenders and hood as well? Dont know. I beleive that if you go with like a 69 grill then you do have to swap hood and fenders but dont quote me on that. I know that the bumper is different from GMC and the Chevy one. Maybe someone with better knowledge on this subject will chime in.

Re: differences

I was hoping I could swap to a 72 type grill. If it takes swapping the whole front end I would then do the seemingly popular 67/68 swap. But thats why I asked. Dont have a clue and the search button doesnt bring anything up for me at all.

67/68 swap you would have to change the grill and rad support. For the 69-72 style you pretty much have to change the whole front clip

Re: differences

i think the rad.support would need to be changed either way,due to the 4 headlight set up on the gmc,and 2 on the chevy.jmo

Re: differences

If you are truly bent on the chevy front end I would just hold out and find a chevy... why go to all the brain damage on swapping the front clip..

BUT if you dont have a option go with the 67/68 route.. just need rad support, hood, bumper, grille, headlights, trim, 67/68 latch and you will have to possibly hone out the bushing holes on the front of the frame where the rad support bolts up, 67/68 has different style of bushings than 69-72..

Just ran across an ad for a 67 Chevy Ill take a look at this weekend. That would solve the issue.
