Question for those who have blazers and actually use them offroad

Would you/do you prefer having an auto over a stickshift? I am selling a Jimmy that is a 4 speed and am contemplating robbing parts to convert my blazer from a TH350 to a stick... Thoughts or ideas?

mine was a auto when i got it, swapped to a 465/205 and am now running a 350/205. Mine was a mechanical linkage, then i converted it to hydro linkage since it was getting bound up flexing it. It is now an auto again, i personally like my auto right now. it does have a shift kit to beef it up a little. What ever you deceide to run, make sure you have the torque mount bracket or the transfer case. IT IS NECESARY IF YOU WHEEL IT!! It will crack your adaptor without it.

I got mine with a stick for the sole purpose of being able to get it started with a dead battery when I was 70 or so miles from any help. Always carried a come-a-long and cables. And could always find a hill to get it rolling. Only downfall I could imagine would be a novice not knowing what gear to select when they go up a mountain. If you need granny, you start the hill in granny. So I prefer the stick shift. Also a little more reliable. I'm sure you'll get a lot of posts on this one as everyone has their own opinions, and each has good and bad points.

I love my 4 speed but for just plain ole simplicity an auto is nice, just press the gas and go. Offroad an auto is nicer for the simple fact that if you're trying to get up an little ledge you don't have to balance the clutch, brake and gas, just hit the gas and you're over it. Also the torque converter will act as a bit of a shock absorber on your components and you as well, the ride won't be quite as jolting.

With all that being said I still have sticks in everything I own for no other reason than I like shifting but there are times when I think for just a second that an auto would be nice.

I have an auto and it works fine off-road, although I don't go rock climbing with it. I do have an override on the neutral safety switch so I can start it in gear.

After rock crawling with an auto, I'd never go back to a standard.

More than once I have seen them over heat and puke out the fill spout right onto the headers and Fire-In-da-HOLE run forest run~!

what i like about my 4 speed is the fact that something cant knock a hole in my trans pan and drain all my fluid out leaving my stuck or have my motor overheat and it cook the trans.........plus you gotta love the super low of a bulldog

I've currently got a auto.....It's nice and easy to drive. I have no complaints. That being said, I am going to be performing a diesel swap. With that will come a NV4500. Mainly I don't want to deal with an auto behind a diesel. I mosty use my truck on old logging roads and fairly easy stuff. I'd never think of rock crawling it. So i think it will be good. If i was building a crawler I'd run a auto too.
