Scrap yard day

Today i was to my local junk yard and i found two 68 chevy trucks, one was 50th anniversary "custom" long bed and the other c30 dually 6 cyl granny trans, i bought the sway bar, auto crossmember, windshield stainless steel trim, sunvisors, rear view mirror bracket and other small parts for 50 bucks, i think it was a good deal.

And i saw a yellow 68 shorbed stepside 6 cyl 350 trans, rust free cab, clean truck , very nice for 3000 bucks

Re: Scrap yard day

Personally, I'd pull the posi if they don't want a ton for it. Everyone ALWAYS wants those. You could ship the carrier to almost anyone on here for $150-200.

Nice set of trucks to choose from. You guys are spoiled by not having sand, salt & muck on your roads.

Re: Scrap yard day

Lots of trucks over in the Valley - that's farm country over there, and it hardly ever rains - over on the coast, now that's a little more like the midwest in terms of rust, especially if you're right on the ocean, because of the constant humidity.

Re: Scrap yard day

Have to admit closer to the ocean makes a difference. Back in the early 80's I visited a Marine buddy stationed at El Toro. We took a drive to the beach & saw a older late 60's caddy that had holes ALL OVER it, around almost every edge on the fenders, trunk lid, etc. Best part was the bumper sticker someone had put on it: "Rust Test in Progress". It was so bad I couldn't believe the shell hadn't just fell to the ground over the frame. Rolling Swiss Cheese comes to mind. Have been told that salt air will do some pretty nasty damage.

Just curious as to what makes it a special horn cap? I have a 50th and I didn't see anything special about the horn cap.
