bed idea, kinda off the wall

here is the deal i have a 68 chevy long bed fleetside bed but i would really like a step bed. i cant find a 67-72 long step anywhere or no one wants to get rid of it. i know that the 88 and up beds fit on these trucks but they didnt make a long step side in the newer body style. i was wondering if anyone has taken an 88 and up short stepside and made it into a long bed to fit the 67-72s? any info or pics would be nice, thanks i know its a crazy idea but it might be cool

well if you are going to stretch a short bed anyways, why not find the right year bed? and if you didnt know already the 88-98 beds are plastic

Re: bed idea, kinda off the wall

because i cant find a 67-72 bed i have been looking for over a year, i have called all the junk yards around where i live and nothing. and taking a 88 and up bed and turning it into a long bed would have a pretty serious custom touch.

Re: bed idea, kinda off the wall

I am not sure if you know but the wheel arches and sides on these beds are fiberglass. If you make the arches match you will most likely have to fiberglass them in.. The long bed version above looks like they took the stock bed and just sat it on there and then formed metal to fill the gap between the bed and cab.. Would probably be fairly easy to do.. let me know if you need my bed.

I will be paying for a subscription soon and probably adding it to the classifieds in the near future. Just realized my subscription on this site has ran out.
