Aftermarket Valve Covers - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So it seems my new crate engine has a cracked valve cover, hair line crack. Cracked none the less. GM basically told me to get bent, so I'm thinking of a set of shiny chrome aftermarkets. I noticed the stock ones have baffles in them, do all the aftermarkets have this as well? Plus I'm having a hard time finding any that have one side with oil filler and a vent hole, and the other side having a vent for the PCV valve. Starting to wonder if I really need the vent from the valve cover to the spacer plate on top of the TBI or not.

87 R10, 350 GM crate engine (not center bolt, old school motor) with TBI intact (for now). Gimme thoughts or suggestions. Have never in my life put aftermarket valve covers on a vehicle, always kept the stock covers.

If you get chrome hit the bottom side of them (where the gasket sits) with a sanding disk or grinder. If you get the chrome off there you will have a much better chance of no leaks.

I bought some matte black Edelbrock ones. I'm just not into chrome. Too much maintenance.

Tell GM to either Replace the cover or they can take the whole thing back and refund your money!! Jeezz After spending that kinda money they could at least replace it!!!

GM has a bunch of aftermarket covers made by proform. I have a set of the black steel ones, but there are alot more styles, and some really nice aluminum ones I wish I would've known about before I bought mine.

So, stupid question here. Do all valve covers have these baffles under them? I just want to be able to use all my hookups with as much ease as possible. Seems all the covers I've seen only have one hole in each side, I need two holes in one side. I also want a real oil filler hole, not a normal hole where I toss a vent cap on it, if that makes sense.

I'll poke around the GM accessory stuff I suppose. Would not mind them saying CHEVROLET one bit.

Almost all of the traditional SBC valve covers have baffles under them. The competition use ones do not. If you find a set you like, just contact the seller/company and ask them. For a street engine they're mandatory.

Those are purty! But wow at some of the prices I'm seeing online. I got a little bit of a smaller budget than what I'm seeing. Looks like some cheaper no name branding covers are more in my price range.

Lot of the round track guys weld their own oil tube in. Makes it easier. Don't have to bend over in the engine so far. Something to think about is getting those guys to weld it up. I've seen some cheap ones online with 4 holes, but wouldn't buy them. They wouldn't last anytime. I would just demand that GM replace them, or tell them they could have it all back. Oh yeah, junkyards may be your last resort. Clean them up really good and powder coat them is another thought. Good luck.
