buying rocker panels
My '69 has rockers that have been completely rotted away and the previous owner put a piece of metal with some sheet metal screws in. I don't know what I need to get to replace the rockers. In a magazine I saw that they have listed 5 different types of rockers- Rocker panel plain, rocker panel with curve, rocker panel OE type, inner rocker panel, and inner rocker panel ext. The OE type looks like maybe it is a complete replacement for what I need. I have nothing to go by on my truck since the rockers are entirely gone. So, do you have any ideas of what I need. I can get pics of the magazine or of the truck if necessary.
thanks for the help brad |

Get the full OE rocker, it will be easier to put on. You will most likely also need the backing plate too which can run you into some troubles fixing that area up. It all depends on how nice a job you want to do. Look underneath the truck to see where the rocker backs into the cab to see if you need the backing plate, and yes there is supposed to be metal there :p

Just another thing to mention, quality differs greatly between brands and is very important. I don't know which brands are best or who sells them though.

Get the O.E. type. There are slip on type but they don't go far enough in most cases and should be avoided. I bought a pair of repro O.E. type for $30 a pair at a swap meet and they fit like a glove! (just did the 2nd one yesterday in fact)
I opted to leave out the backing plates on both of my trucks which only causes mud to collect and rot the panels. With them wide open and undercoated, I see these lasting a very long time! If your rockers are gone, chances are, you will need to fix the outer floor area too. I just did this and made my own. (using metal from an old hood)

Can't get your website to work; when I go to 67-72 or 60-66 catalog, picture place holders come up, but no text or hot buttons anywhere.
