Any suggestions for a pto boot cover?

When I bought this 1-ton dump this is how the PTO controls for the dump bed came from the PO.



Needless to say, a bit too much exposure to the weather like it is and, up to now, I just stuffed an old glove in it as a temporary "until I get around to it" solution. Now, after the recent clutch job I've reconnected the pto today and tidying up lose details while looking at this hole again for something more weather-proof.


Any idea is appreciated.

I do have an old rubber bed mat around for 'rubber parts'. Does anyone know of a rubber boot actually made for this or an idea on modifying an old one? Not even sure where to find one to start so any suggestions?

You could switch to a cable operated controls ....about $75.00 each

Or electric linear actuators .....many new trucks use these

Or a twin lever marine shift control such as Morse MT3 if you want to keep shifter on floor

I'm not sure what you could find to cover that home grown mess, But I know if it was my rig I'd have to fab my own set-up with all the brackets under the floorboard.

Take that outside angle bracket off and trim it down even with the hump edge, Then build a box to cover the mess with wider slots for the levers, Cover the top of the box with a piece of that bed mat rubber with thin slices to fit the levers tightly.

I agree, restrorob, the brackets need 'flipped' under the hump. On staring at it today I see some shortening of the handles as well. The short one is what engages/disengages the pto, the longer one drops the bed. (here all I know is do not have it in gear when engaging the pto...I was told that would be "bad".)

Yet if I go ahead and eliminate those brackets from the cab side,(I really like that idea I never thought of!), then add two layers of that rubber bed mat under the existing rubber floor, with a slice for each handle that remains protruding into the cab, less that goofy bracket set-up, then I "might" be close to weather proof.

Definitely shortening those handles. But thanks for getting me started thinking with some new perspectives. It's a start!
