OK, I'm nagging like your mom!
I realize I haven't been around here a long time. But at the risk of coming off like an old, crotchety senior nag, I'm gonna offer some totally unsolicited advice here: Buy a factory service manual for your truck! It will save you lots of time and aggravation. When you can't find where that part is located on your truck or you don't know how to replace it, the manual will likely tell you. You can find them on eBay for under $25, usually. Any time I've bought a new-to-me vehicle or bike, the first thing I get is a shop or service manual; for any H-D I've owned, I also get a parts book. And for this truck, I also bought a colored wiring diagram off eBay for under $15, as I recall.
I know I could send a message to this forum about any issue I have, and eventually one of the great, knowledgeable folks here will respond .... but that doesn't do much good late at night, on my back and covered with grease. Okay ... rant mode OFF ... ... best wishes to all! Barry

The service manual is a great tool.
And for those that don't know, there is a free color wiring diagram available here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=185856

When friends or family call about problem X on their car/truck, I give them the answer and also tell them to get a book. If not the factory manual, then Haynes or Chiltons. Yes, there are somethings that are just not in the books, but at least 90% of the stuff is there including pictures.
Digital photos of your job before you dismantle, helps getting things back together. The search function is a help too, but it is a bit finicky. The search must be just right.

Good information! I myself have spent many an hour trying to figure something out that would have taken 5 minutes with a manual or wiring diagram.

The internet is your friend!!!! I have found more answer going to www.google.com than anywhere else. Specially working on non automotive problems. I also have a programn called "All Data" which has information for any brand vehicle of almost any year...

[QUOTE=ERASER5;4203748]4 different sections. It was all there, I just had to look for it.QUOTE]
This seems like a Haynes manual. I find all of the others to be far easier to use. Last edited by Notrodder; 09-22-2010 at 12:40 PM. |
