67- 327 engine color

Hey Guys... I inherited my dads 1967 Chevy 3/4T camper Special and am looking at getting started restoring it... My Dad bought this truck new on November 11, 1966 and blew up the original 327 sometime around 1974... he replaced it with a 350 Crate Engine... What a bummer... so two things... I am looking for a 1967 327 engine for this truck so I can at least have a correct Pickup but also I am researching wanting to know what the color of the original engine was... if my memory serves me correct it actually was Chevy Engine Red/Orange... Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Dan

Hey Dan Some of the truck engines were also blue/green. My 66 1 ton 283 was that way. Ed

Here's a shots of a 67 327 with 47k on it. YS grease pencil marks intact (match suffix code). Sharpie

Hi Dan, manual or auto trans? If 4 speed you will be looking for a YS code motor. Sharpie

Re: 67- 327 engine color

Check out the post "my finished 68 50th truck" photo of engine. To me, this engine color looks the most accurate. Would love to know what color paint woodchip used. All of the factory photos I have seen are more reddish orange than just plain orange during the late 60's and early 70's. The color shade may have been changed more orange from '73 thru '76.

Re: 67- 327 engine color

THis is a Turbo 400 Tranny with 456 posi diff... the tranny has never been cracked open and still works like a charm.... When I restore this truck I am not going to change anything that cannot be easily returned to stock... I still have the 5, 16.5" split rims for this truck... one thing I am haveing a difficult time finding is the Rubber Floor mat that came in the truck... All of the reproductions are WAY to bright... The Dash Pad is a medium Blue and the Dash Pad I found is a real bright Blue... so I am trying to have an interior Dash color mixed to make it accurate...

Thanks For all your help...

Dan

If you want a rattle can paint, plasti-coat ( not sure of spelling) chevy engine orange is as close as you can get. That is what i used here until i decided to change motors and have the engine professionaly painted.

This remains a problem when trying to do an accurate restoration. Repop people don't reproduce every correct color interior item during the 67-72 run.Your pretty much on your own to find your own to find color matches, or find clean original pieces. Please post pictures of your truck and if possible the SPID "service parts indentification" decal inside glove box door.
