My 66 Shelby Cobra

I have always loved these cars, and as of last May I decided everything was in line and I was going to pull the trigger and get one. The one I got was from central Missouri, and only a few hours from my current home. It was produced by B&B Manufacturing in Missouri back in 2001. As for build quality I would rate quite high, although there are a few flaws that one should expect for a nearly 10 year old car. It only had 14K miles when I picked it up to drive it home. It has a 351 Windsor and a 5 speed.

That looks sharp man! That is the best color combo in my opinion also!

Re: My 66 Shelby Cobra

Thanks ya'll, I am beginning to think I have a hidden love of blue, this car, my 85, dirt bike, and sport bike are all blue. It is a total blast to drive, but isn't the most practical choice. Luckily practicality lost in this decision.

Nice. My neighbor has one of those, but he never drives it.

Re: My 66 Shelby Cobra

I got under the car on a lift last night for the first time and found a few interesting things...
1. The side pipe bracket welds were broken, and caused the pipes to rattle.
2. The reason the welds broke was because somewhere along the line the bolt that connect the transmission to the trans mount disappeared.
3. The bolts for the engine mounts were a little loose.
4. I have a little oil leaking from the oil pan. (may mean I can talk myself into pulling the engine for a stout rebuild)
5. Once all that was fixed, it drove a lot different, in a good way!

I just love this car, and hope I can keep it for a long time as long as a wife and kids don't get in the way. What would ya'll think the best idea for an engine build would be for this car, I won't go with a big block so that is out of the question. But 302 stroked, 351 built, or 351 stroked to 427 and built mildly, or keep the 351 and add nitrous?

Sweet ride!!

Been dreaming about a Factory Five Racing one for years in that same color combo....maybe one day!

If it were me, I would stroke the 351 to 427 and get a set of original style Halibrand wheels(although it does look good with the TT's).

My vote would be an LS7 --427. +500HP in stock form, goes up from there. There is no sacrilege since it is not really a Ford. Which is exactly the way I would buy one, aftermarket. That way I can change anything I want to and still be able to sleep at night.

Beautiful car. Fix the oil leak, put on the Halibrands, and drive the snot out of it.

Re: My 66 Shelby Cobra

I would stroke the 351 to 408 cubes, and buy a neck brace.

Re: My 66 Shelby Cobra

I like that, I have a little more info on the trans and rear end now, it is a t-5 trans, and the 8.8 has 4.10:1 gearing which explains why I'm running just under 4 grand on the highway.

Re: My 66 Shelby Cobra

Right at 80 give or take a bit. It is running terribly fast there. I've ordered new gaskets to fix the leaks, and am trying to decide on what to put in it still. Time will tell.
