Re: uh oh

Chiltons don't impress me. I go for factory manuals.

Re: uh oh

Mine makes some unfriendly noise in the upper RPMs. At this point, I'm gonna check the valve train one more time. If it all looks good, I'm just gonna run it till it pukes.

Re: uh oh

Might want to try using a thicker oil and Motor Honey additive, it really made a difference in my truck. Also see if you are getting blow-by (is it leaking oil from the gaskets? popping the pvc?) I was able to fix a lot of my problems by getting an oil fill breather cap and using 10w40 oil. I know the oil's a band-aid, but if it's a 30,000 mile band-aid that's 2 years with the mileage I drive.

Re: uh oh

Are you sure it's not an exhaust leak?

Was my thought as well. I had an awful tapping noise with only 200 miles on my engine. Found the left header had a bolt missing, 1 finger tight and the rest barely holding on.

Re: uh oh

I would also check for an exhaust leak. If you can't hear the tick at idle or low RPMs, but you can hear it under load, that's a good indication of a leaky exhaust manifold gasket.
