When I turn the wheel on my truck in either direction as I'm driving, I get the odd knocking sound. Any ideas what it could be or how to fix it? I've heard it was a common defect in these trucks but I would like to fix it. I gets annoying. Thanks!

I just replaced mine and the "knock" is gone. You need part # 19153614. You can get them from GMPartsDirect but I bought one off eBay for $49.99. Looks like the average selling price is between $70 and $80.

Yeah the intermediate steering shaft is a common problem in the past 10 years for GM trucks.

I have done some research over the past couple of weeks and just ordered a new ISS and lower column bushing for my 2004.

Some people have luck by install a 2" muffler clamp around the lower column bushing to support it. I tried but it did not work.

I had this problem on my 03 Sierra 1500HD. I had an intermediate shaft ready to put in just hadn't got around to it. I went to the link that C10-Driver posted. In the post there was talk about the bushing on the upper part of the steering shaft. The member had put a hose clamp around it to tighten up the slack that the bushing was encountering. I tried this today, and it solved my problem. For a $1.29 hose clamp vs. a $45+ steering shaft I would suggest it first.
