A Simple Paint Code Question (I HOPE)

I'm looking at purchasing a truck that has paint code 145810 - wht/red orange/wht). However, I can't find out what color this is. According to the book I have there are three red/orange colors.

524 Firebolt Orange
516 Tangier Orange
514 Crimson Red

Which one of these 3 colors relates to the code 145810? Is this Hugger Orange?

Re: A Simple Paint Code Question (I HOPE)

For a 71 or 72 Chevy or GMC I came up with paint code 458 which is a two tone color code for 524 Hugger Orange and 521 White. In 1970 the same 524 code was called red orange

What he said. One of the trucks we have had here was the red/orange which was hugger orange. The two tone codes can be hard to come up with sometimes... Renshed Morrison Has some literature around that help to translate it, also try contacting Chip flyer and he should be able to help you out as well.

Re: A Simple Paint Code Question (I HOPE)

I agree, red/orange would be hugger orange. Or firebolt orange.

Re: A Simple Paint Code Question (I HOPE)

I have the same question. I have a 1972 GMC sierra that I bought in 96. It is a longbed and it is all original. still has original paint on it. I am getting ready to get it painted, but I want to make 100% sure that I get the correct color original. The truck is two tone orange and white with the white roof. The glovebox sticker says wht/red orange/wht -just like his does. the number 145810 is to the left of it for the option number. The truck looks Hugger Orange. I just bought some paint chips on ebay for the truck. There are 2 oranges that look close when I compared it to my truck up close. Hugger Orange(524) and Orange(516) are the only 2 that are close. Can anyone tell me for sure that my truck is Hugger Orange? I know that is what everyone thinks, but where can I buy a book about this?
thanks

Yours sounds just like our truck. I haven't verified the paint code but it looks like hugger to me. Maybe someone will know for sure.

My Spid says 514 'Light Red'. Two colors for the same code? My truck looks hugger orange.

Here are the Ditzler paint code pages extracted in a larger format for 67-72 Chevy Trucks. Might give you some insight. From the sight RodK65 mentioned

Hmm...weird...

My '68 shows the 514 as just plain 'red'. And the number has a 04 and AA behind it.

Same color...?

I am pretty sure RED, LIGHT RED, and MEDIUM RED are all the same color. They were listed differently on the spid for different years. These "REDS" are the closest thing to real red they had. They are different from HUGGER ORANGE, RED ORANGE.

When the reds fade, they look like Hugger orange/red orange.

There is want I call a true orange, It is listed as ORANGE or TANGIER.

Ah...that makes sense. I didn't think that there were that many different types of red in those years.

More of a orangish-red, rather than a reddish-orange like the Hugger. Interesting...
