Neutral safety switch..Please HELP

The PO removed the neutral safety switch / back-up light switch on my column. I am trying to install a new one, but the switching tangs hanging out the bottom of the switch are not long enough to reach the indent in the column. Am I missing something? Is there another piece that links the 2?

Yes there is a small tang that should be attached to the inner column the black plastic tang on the bottom of your NSS hooks upwith that.

I made one up for mine......

Re: Neutral safety switch..Please HELP

If you have a converted van tilt column it will use a different switch than a truck column. No tang to fit on.

Does anyone know where I can buy a new tang, or do I have to fab my own up?

Bub... do you have a tilt? That looks a lot like a van tilt column to me. Can you get a photo of the under hood end of it?

Yes, it is a tilt column. I'll take the pics tomorrow. I suppose the PO could have swapped the column. Thanks for the help.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm thinking I may have a van column too. I don't think I have a neutral safety switch and not sure I need one. Not even sure what it does honestly.

Yes, I found out that mine is a van column. I had to cut a new slot in it to mount the nss. It is a safety thing, so you don't start it in gear.

Re: Neutral safety switch..Please HELP

Thanks!

Did you end up buying a neutral switch made for a truck or for a van? If van, how did you decide which year to use?

Re: Neutral safety switch..Please HELP

I used Napa part# NS6537. I don't recall what it was for, but it worked out perfectly.
