Big block cam selection

Alright, time to build a motor for the mud truck, last week was the end of the old motor.......... 6 quarts of 85w90 and she still only has around 10psi when revving

Here is what I have already

4 bolt 454 block .030 over
12.5 TRW pistons with GM Dimple Rods
GM STEEL Crank - Need to decide if the crank needs turned or just run an oversized thrust bearing. Torque convertor ballonned and push it forward a little I was told.
World Product Grumpy Steel Heads that have been ported
Victor Jr Intake

Need:
Carb - Debating on 1050 E-85 carb
Cam and lifters ???????

I already have talked to Doug Herbert about their cams and he recommends a solid roller? I was thinking along the lines of a Hydraulic Roller, never ran a solid cam before? What is your guys opinion ??

Truck weighs about 3 tons or so if you were wondering

thanks guys

Re: Big block cam selection

I use Cam Motion camshafts. It is very helpfull if you have flow numbers for the heads, compression ratio, displacement, gear ratio, tire size, transmission, etc, to get the optimum camshaft. Give them a call at 1 225 926 6110 and see if they can help you out. If it is an high rpm aplication, I would go with a solid roller. See what they say. Paul Baxter

Re: Big block cam selection

X2 on Cam Motion. I've bought a few sbc cams from them and always had good luck with them. The more info you can give your cam company, the better off you are.
