1967 SWB Rebuild
Bought my 1967 c10 SWB this month for $1000.00 and just got started on the tear down. Looks like I have a long road of work ahead.

Trans questions what do you think.
Truck tear down began. Truck was orginally a three speed swapping it over to an auto. I have a th350 with a short tailshaft which I believe will fit with the 2 peice driveshaft. I got lucky and found a good automatic steering column with all linkage componets at a local salvage yard for $100. Trying not to do to many modifications cutting out the manual crossmemeber and ordered a ccp crossmemeber. But am wondering if maybe I should go with a 700r4 trans or just stay with what I currently have. The problem is I am not familiar with the 700r4 transmission and dont know what else it would take to put in. So the question is swap it or not and would it require any other mods or will it fit with the driveshaft and shift linkages I have.

I would probably go a 700r4.. I think there is some linkage mods you have to do and I believe the trans is a notch longer.. I dont think its anything crazy to put in though. Do a search on this board and there are some write ups on 700r4 installs.. If I cant fix my th350 week I will be putting in a 700r4 as well. Nice find for a grand and good luck with the build.

Well pulled the crossmember and decided today to go ahead keep what i have going to use the turbo 350 tranny and get it rebuilt.

Just started back at it. And wouldn't you know changes already. Well pulled a 400 SBC out of 76 4x4 chevy we had setting around and just after I got it out and torn down my brother called got 5, 94 and new 454's and 4l80e out of an rv salvage for about $600 a piece all were running and complete from alternater to starters. Had to pay some kids to pull them and they said it was a pain getting them out. We installed two just changed oil, intake, distrub, and carb. Started first try and no major issues. The two we installed we put a 400 turbo behind them. However I am going to try and run the 4l80e. Will have pics soon.

well drip rails shaved door latches reversest all rust fixed and just got the paint on it and have a nice fresh orange 454 big block and 4l80e on stand by to be stuffed in it I will get better pictures after the glass is put on it.

Found automatic steering column in good shape for decent price ($50.00)finally. now just need to paint and start putting together

Performance Online BBC Motor Stand and cross member arrive a couple weeks ago. Had to make minor mod to frame rails to fit BBC in 67 frame. Easy mod just had to notch upper frame rails to use motor stands. once mounted bbc and 4l80e fit like a glove.

Motor already in. ordered Headers from jegs on Monday and was surprised when they arrived Wednesday hopefully they fit without any more cutting.
Pulled an old Holley double pumper out of retirement and rebuilt it however waiting on new rear discharge nozzle and needle from bptcards on ebay great prices, quick response. Have cheap micro mr gasket electric fuel pump to slap on it. I hope it is enough to run it, if not I will just use it to move around the shop then upgrade later. Paid 48.50 for New distributor still in shipment. Minus a few odds and ends like hoses, a power steering reservoir to run with newer style pump and set of valve cover gaskets we should be able to run the wiring and start this puppy up. |

Fed-ex just dropped off distributor I ordered two days ago from whites performance on ebay (spent total 48.50 for brand new with warranty). O Reilly's wanted $99 for rebuilt and jegs $79 to $89 for new. I am happy with product good quality and fast shipping for cheap.

back at it again installed carb, distributor, headers, trans line, replaced brake lines transferred parts fuel tank, throttle linkage from old cab. HAD TO GRIND OFF ABOUT A 1/8 TO 1/4 INCH OFF BOTH HEADERS DUE TO BOTTOM OF THE FLANGE HITTING HEAD BOLTS. Next weekend hopefully going to tackle wiring

Well Deployed again setting in Africa. Truck is on hold until i return in August. However the deployment pay is helping the internet parts shopping. My wife keeps getting packages in the mail. I almost have all parts to finish the money pit project that started in 2010.

Ok after some searching and research I decided to go with the Lokar shift rod linkage instead of the cable and have it ordered. Now onto the next problem which is the computer for the 4l80e. I was looking at going cheap with the manual shift controller from jakes ($200). However I called jake and when I found out you have to install a seperate switch for the converter lockup I dropped that idea. Who wants to deal with that and I am not sure how or when to use the converter lock up. So started a new search and I just found TCI EZU controller. I read some reviews and watched some youtube videos and liked what I saw. Plus for $614 through summit it seems like the way to go. I can run my new vintage usa gauge kit (speedometer) with the TCI EZU and have fully adjustable shift settings. Only one thing they left out you have to spend the extra $136 dollars for the Throttle Position Sensor which can be ordered through summit as well.
