Engie paint. . . . . .
Ok, I am gonna be painting a engine real soon here. What is the BEST paint I can buy. I don't want this stuff to peel off. I want a nice engine paint job. I was at farm and fleet tonight, and saw that they had duplia-color, that was a 1200 deg. paint with cerimac, for headders and mainfolds. Would this be a good paint for the block? Please, I want this puppy to look nice.

I used Hersch Automotive paint on my block but I wouldn't use it again. It's pretty tough to work with and takes several coats to cover. Running and pooling were problems. It costs like 12 clams a can. It did turn out OK in the end. Time will tell how it holds up. I Found out today it does not hold up to anti-freeze and dis-colored where some spots had sat.
If I had to do it again I'd try Eastwood's product. I used their Semi-gloss black under-hood paint and it gave a very nice finish on my black accessory parts.

I just cleaned my motor real good sealed it and added dupont chroma premier base coat clear coat. seems to be holding up great IMO.

i haven't used it but por-15 has engine paints in quite a few colors and if it's any thing like their othor products i'd give it a try

I used VHT's high temp engine paint. Went on real well, but haven't used the engine so I can't say how it will hold up.

I've always used the VHT high temp engine paint and I have never had a problem with it.

I use VHT, and it works pretty good. Remember to clean the block as good as you can, and give everything about 3 coats of paint. If you are painting Chevy Orange, don't expect it to look very good for more than a year, especcialy if you drive it every day. As much as i love Chevy Orange, one good oil leak and the motor looks like crap without giving it a very good cleaning, or possibly a repaint.

I've used VHT and plasticoat both, and I think next time I'll spend a little more and go with the eastwood stuff.
It's not so much that the ones I've used were real bad...just not real good. I clean my engine quite a bit at the coin-op (I park in a dusty dirt lot at work) and I liek my engine clean. |

I little trick I do on things that I want to paint to stick good to is to either heat up the paint can(you gotta do this carefully) or heat up the object with a plumbers torch. If the engine is out of the vehicle going over the engine lightly with a torch will help burn off any oil contamination.

knucklebuster. Its a product line from dupont that cars get painted with. No special heat rating. I painted my engine the same color as I'm painting the truck. It's not single stage paint. but a 2 stage base coat clear coat. I thought I would have problems with it peeling or bubbling because of the heat but so far its seems to be holding great and also looks good, but is a little more pricey than the rattle can stuff.

I'm using the POR 15 engine paint right now. I have 2 coats on and will probably need 2 more. I put POR15 on the block first and I'm not sure I would do that again. Although they say the engine paint goes on fine over the POR 15 that stuff is very slippery and the Chevy orange doesn't cover well over the black. It would work much better over raw steel or a primer with some tooth.
The color is very deep and shiny and I think it will look good when done. I can't report on durability because it will be at least 6 mo before I get the engine in my truck.
