Question Anyone use a "universal" side molding kit?

Has anyone used any kind of "universal" side molding kit to replace the original black or woodgrain molding on their trucks? I can't really bring myself to drop $600-700 for a kit of factory replacement molding. A quick search through JC Whitney turns up these:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/extra-wide-...7d16352y1972j2

http://www.jcwhitney.com/deluxe-viny...7d16352y1972j2

http://www.jcwhitney.com/universal-2...7d16352y1972j2

I wouldn't mind not using molding at all and just welding up the holes, but upon repaint, I'm going to still have a two tone paint job and would like to have something to break up the colors. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions?

Re: Anyone use a "universal" side molding kit?

that looks like the lower trim on a 80 model scottsdale truck because it has the black in it and the silverado had the all chrome look

100% pure cheese. But that's just my opinion. Try it if you don't like it it's easy to remove and you're not out much money.

Replacement side molding for 88 and up silverado looks very good on these trucks, I did an orange 67 with black and chrome on the lower portion, looked very nice in my opinion . 65-75.00 per roll and 0ne roll will do a std cab long bed.

Is that for a factory replacement or something aftermarket? Any links or anything to the specific one you're talking about? $75 is better than $700! Do you have a picture of the truck you used it on?

Re: Anyone use a "universal" side molding kit?

My truck has what I believe is a universal side molding kit on it... Not very may people notice that it's not stock... I've only had one guy notice and ask about it at a car show...

If your'e not chasing a restoration, hey why not? I think it will look just fine. Unless you have Jay Leno pockets people will find something wrong with your vehicle. Those peoples favorite tool is a check book.

I dont have any pics of the truck. The moulding is about 2-1/4" wide I think, I also think it is made by 3M, this is what I am talking but in an uncut roll
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cd/full.aspx?Page=27, it is black with a thin chrome strip at the top
