Hello to all you bad ass truck lovers,
I just recently purchased a 1970 C10. Unfortunatley i am deployed and have only been able to see it through pictures. I would love some help from the pros and joes. Suspension: I want to Drop it, 2 in the fron 4 in the rear. Purchased coils and shocks, anything i need to take into consideration??? Any hints? Exterior: nothing fancy just keppin it clean and mean. How to fill in body holes left by chrome kit? The guts: Will i need a brake power booster? Best way to clean up a beautiful engine compartment. Interior: Stereo recommendations, carpet kits? This site is insane way too much information!!! |

What you would need to take into account for a 4" rear drop is a shock relocation kit & adjustable Panhard bar.
I've seen a post on here were the guy was describing how to use coins and metal putty to fill the moulding holes on the body instead of welding them. Classic Parts are very good for the parts you may need, brake booster, carpets and all else, we are spoilt for choice here as far as parts vendors are concerned....which is a good thing. First off, I Thank You for your service!
I would start collecting some parts and have them delivered to where your truck is, take it a piece at a time like, stuff to get it driveable, interior, then lowering the front, etc, etc. So you can enjoy it while you are home by working on it then driving it for a bit. Keep up the good work! We are praying for all you soldiers!

First off thanks for your service ! second I grew up 24 miles north of you in Enterprise an visit there quite a bit , so pass thru the town where you live once a month I now live in the south east corner of the state. I'm building a 70 C/10 an in the putting back together stages. We will have to hook up some time hopefully will have mine goin next spring , I have a few friends back there that do the car show things so plan to meet up an take my truck to a few !!!

Welcome and thank you for your service! Most any carpet kit will come from ACC and as far as stereo's go, if you don't want to cut the dash, your choices are a little limited. Need to decide how far you want to go. On my 71, I cut the dash, on my 69, I haven't decided yet. I'm thinking an mp3 jack on the existing AM radio with possibly some cd controller guts.
Just depends on what you want in the end, and what you are willing to spend. Either way, enjoy and be safe out there! Come home soon and get to work on that truck!

Here's to you from an old Vietnam Vet.
I have Early Classic Enterprises 2.5/4.0 drop on my '69. If you lower your truck with spindles, you'll also be doing a conversion to disc brakes. I don't know of anyone making a lowered spindle that uses drums. As for the power brake booster, your truck already has one. So did mine. ECE sells their conversions with or without the booster. When you lower the rear, give some serious consideration to an adjustable track bar (Panhard rod) and their shock mount relocators. Up front, the stock-length shock will work. Out back, you'll need a shorter shock. ECE sells the shocks you would need. I'd also go ahead and rebuild the front end....ball joints, upper/lower control arm shafts/bushings, tie rod ends, center link, pitman and idler arms. The lowered front end will also benefit by ECE's stabilizer bar mounts that raise the stabilizer about an inch....you'll need it to avoid dragging it on high stuff. My youngest son just finished his tour-of-duty, this past May. He had signed up before 9/11. He was in Saudi when the action was launched in Iraq. All you guys serving in that environment deserve all the praise you can get. If you need to, just ask. I'll give you some more.

Gents,
Well my wife is in a constant state of shock. I have ordered the drop coils 2 front 4 rear, drop shocks. I figured if i start there and work my way out. Im undecided about messing with the whole brake issue. Ive bought alot of parts for the cab. Really want to media blast and repaint while i am in the disassembly phase. This will be my sanity project after redeployment... |

Just a suggestion . there are two places you can order parts from in the Kansas City area one is Lmc, an the other is Classic parts, if you order from Lmc you will have to pay Taxes an shipping charges !, if you order from Classic you wont have to pay taxes as there on the Missouri side , an if the parts arent oversized you proably wont have to pay shipping , Heck that alone alowed me to order an extra 80 dollars worth of parts from them !!!
