Well I Just got my first classic chevy truck its a 1971 c 10 with a chevy 350 and a three on the tree. This is my first chevy truck to restore so I dont know much about it I have been a ford guy all my life. Any way I am hopeing to have some pictures up of it in a little bit. I do have a few questions I have a chevy 350 that I am going to put in it. The motor come out if a 1987 chevy truck I was wondering if there is anyhting I should look out for when doing the swap? For example will the motor mounts change over and will the bell houseing match up? Also how strong are the three on the tree set ups my motor was dynoed out to alittle over 400 hp.

Hi there, and welcome. You'd better post pics up of your truck if you want to make people happy on the board.

I have an '80s era 350 in mine, there will be no difference in motor mounts and the like.

Welcome to the board!! That motor's carburated now,right? As said,it's a bolt-in.That 3spd ain't the strongest in the bunch.It depends on it's condition and how you drive it,too,of course.Last time i checked people don't build 400 horse motors to go easy

.A car 4spd will swap right in,like Muncy M20/21/22,Borg Warners,and Saginaws.The list starts off the most expensive and works down a bit in price.

I believe around 86 or 87 they went to the one piece rear seal and you will have to have the later fly wheel. I had a 425 HP 409 in a 63 with the three speed and it would get destroyed if I got on it. I ended changing to the T400 automatic.

Well the motor wasent supposted to be over 400 Hp I went in for a rebuild and had a list of parts that I wanted in it I was shooting for around 300 hp at max. Yea I didnt know that 350s get alot of there hp from the upper end of the motor oops. This weekend the motor goes in so I should have alot of pictures.

I'd recommend you look for some books to help you learn more about your truck. I was a Ford guy for a while and then a Pontiac person. Chevys didn't become a mainstay for quite a while, but I got there.

There's a book called "Chevrolet Red Book", from Motorbooks International. Another one that may be of interest is "Standard Catalog of Chevrolet Trucks, 1918-1995". A recent addition has been published that picks up in '96. Of course, dealer brochures are nice to have....there are reprints of original one available. www.lmctruck.com is a good site to have on your desktop. Their catalogs are free. www.classicparts.com is another free catalog. www.kennystrucks.com is one you might want to check. But, go to the Home page of this site and look for the vendors.....there's a bunch of 'em and they can help you out and answer your questions using the PM (Private Message) button. You'll get notices in your email when there's a message for you.

hahah its mr smothers, yea its a nick name I got freshmen year of college still dont know why. I think it has something to do with the smother brothers show. The guy I got this truck from actually told me about this forum he said that yall are very helpfull and from reading some of ur post he was right. So to kevin in longview thanks
