I just ordered a HID kit for my Dmax and started searching the internet for a conversion kit for the Blazer and figured it would be smarter to ask here first.

Any good kits out there?

a deff mod i am going to do since i have them in the kia and they are awesome . might have to buy the plastic replacement houseings that will take a 9006 9005 style bulb snapping in the back not a sealed beam glass blub like the truck has orignaly

I bought a set that were glass lense/housing that look very much like the OEM they are flat instead of rounded and came with blue bulbs. Tried them when I first got them 3 or 4yrs ago. They worked great Paid $ 35 or 40 for the pair Great deal. Truck now under restoration

I haven't looked at the OE lights much, but it seems that you could dremel out the bulb that's in the sealed beam from the back and graft the connector of a 9005 or 9006 bulb socket into the hole in the sealed beam original bulb, and use the HID conversion kits with the relay and everything included to make the swap. With the relay harness kit, you would still have to make the original wiring harness that plugs into the back of a sealed beam work, but it doesn't sound like anything to hard to accomplish for most of us DIY'ers here!

Does it have to be HID?

A very good headlight upgrade would be Hella Euro reflectors with whatever wattage bulbs your wiring and electrical will support. The Euro reflectors are listed as four times as bright on low beam and twice as bright on high beam compared to DOT sealed beams. Bulbs upwards of 100w are available.

You'll also need wiring harness upgrade to keep the current out of the dash mounted headlamp switch and foot dimmer. I think LMC makes one but I would get a Hella one from the same vendor that I link to above. http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=1247

I'll check into them.

My wiring was just upgraded with a new Painless harness so I think I'm OK that way.

I too did the painless wiring harness, but it didnt cure the voltage drop the relays help with. If you do any type of upgrade to the headlights, be sure to do the relays as well.

Called those guys and according to them as long as I do the 60/55 the wiring should be just fine.

It is the switch they said is the weak point, not the wiring and the switch should be a non issue with that wattage, even an old 1972 switch/foot switch.

I bought a set of these Halo lights with a "projector" lense. Flat glass with a blue bulb.

CHEAP$ from tuningimport (store name) on Ebay.

That's how they look installed.
They were less than $30. BUT THEY SUCK.
They have no real pattern just a like holding a lantern up in front of you. Not bright and yet on coming drivers hate me.

So I ordered these:

$200 and I have to seriously modify the above light ( with the halos) but I will prevail!!!!
And I will have a better quaility light pattern that will be friendly to on coming traffic.

Here is another LOW cost quality unknown for a bi-xenon ( lo/hi beam) kit that could be used with the tuningimport halo lights I posted above.
I know the lenses on the projector really have the MOST to do with the quality of light and the pattern. So be prepared to be less than overly excited with a cheapie set like these....but I dunno fer certain about them

around $110 on ebay

For our gmc I ordered the 5" conversion lenses from E-Bay that would use the 9003 bulbs- These are not HID's, but can use the silverstar bulbs (or you can get 9003 hid's). They work beautifully, just use a relay for the low and high beams -the high beams will overload the Headlight switch and turn the lights out.
